Final 2007 Chase Standings

Monday December 3, 2007
2007 Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL CupWhether or not you are a Jeff Gordon fan you have to feel a little bad for Gordon this year. He did everything that a driver normally needs to do in order to win the Cup.

He came into the Chase with a huge point lead and never slowed down. During the Chase he posted an amazing nine top tens out of the ten Chase races. His worst finish was eleventh (Dover). His average finish during the Chase was just a hair behind his teammate at 5.1.

This year he lead the series in poles, top fives and top tens. Normally a great year for any driver. However, in 2007 that is only good enough for second.

(1) Lillian says:

Too bad you left out Clint Boyer. Hell of a driver and darn good guy. He won’t win this year but look out in 2008, Clint is going to come on strong.

(2) Jason H says:

Go Jeff Go! Jeff and Jimmy are hands down the two most talented drivers in cup at this time. If not for this stupid chase format Jeff would be wrapping up his 6th title and on his way to being the most decorated cup driver ever.

October 23, 2007 at 3:55 pm
(3) 1969RS says:

It is pretty much the Jeff and Jimmy show here on out. I think it is Jeff’s to loose.

Jason H, stupid chase format was designed to get people like me from watching football on Sundays in the fall.

Guess what….I still watch football.

when is espn going to replace rusty wallace

October 24, 2007 at 8:54 am
(5) 1969RS says:

Charlie, not soon enough! Rusty has always had an ego as big as Jimmy Spencer’s gut. Really get tired of listening to him.

October 24, 2007 at 9:59 am
(6) Sammer says:

Wow, what a boring season. Even with the chase, its week after week of watching the same boring, cookie cutter, vanilla drivers get to the front. Then, as if on queue, start the series of yellows that keep the golden boys where Nascar wants them and end the race and act like its suprising to see who has won, again. Lame.

Sammer

October 24, 2007 at 12:57 pm
(7) Jethro says:

My opinion however small chase format works but sucks cause Dale Jr. is not a part of it. Wait till next year talk about a superteam…..Hendrich wins hands down!!!!!!!

October 24, 2007 at 1:48 pm
(8) fred says:

good job RUSTY YOU ARE THE MAN

October 24, 2007 at 2:20 pm
(9) Sammer says:

Junior isn’t in the chase because he did not run good enough. It’s hard to believe it is the teams fault when Martin Truex makes it coming from the same team. He will probably make it with Hendrich. But, they made a winning driver out of mediocre Jimmy Johnson. To bad we won’t get to see if Jr could have made it on his own merit.

October 24, 2007 at 6:02 pm
(10) Kelly says:

I really hope Gordon get’s it this year, it’s been a while and it’s hard being a Gordon fan when so many people don’t like him. Go Jeff Go!!

October 24, 2007 at 6:05 pm
(11) Kelly says:

I like the comment from Jethro about Jr. joining Hendricks,
that should be awesome. I really never thought Kyle fit in well anyway.

October 24, 2007 at 6:12 pm
(12) Kelly says:

I guess I should have answered the question, got carried away.
My prediction hasn’t changed up to this point but I think everyone goes into hoping their favorite driver will win.
I think it will be Gordon and Johnson very close in the end.

October 24, 2007 at 9:25 pm
(13) open wheel man says:

Next year its #88 for the #1 in points!

October 25, 2007 at 3:22 am
(14) Bryan-Nothin But NASCAR says:

JJ and Jeff do look like the ones to beat, but don’t count Smoke out just yet. A repeat at Atlanta is a definite possibility, and the remaining races after that are at tracks where Tony has had a fair amount of success. While I think that his run is about over, I tip my hat to Clint Bowyer. Great run this year-should be in the thick of it for many seasons to come.

October 25, 2007 at 6:27 am
(15) Tyler20 says:

Wow..I think this has been one of the most exciting seasons in the past 20 years…This thing is not over..Watch for Tony to make a Charge…He has nothing to lose..He wants it..Jeff and Jimmy will have some bad luck before the season is over..Tony will Win the Championship..Nascar Rules!

October 26, 2007 at 9:17 am
(16) BILL B. says:

What happenrd to “CRANK IT UP”???? we need no talking at green flag, let us hear the CARS!!Maybe if we had only one anouncer it would be better….seems they think that this is the first race we have ever seen!!

October 29, 2007 at 9:33 am
(17) Nevada says:

What is the Math? May not be just JJ and JG but close. Mathematically, who Might De Throne the Hendricks Crew?

October 31, 2007 at 7:41 am
(18) Modoc says:

Lillian, You are right about Boyer being left out of this particular story! He has been in the shadows all year. I have come to seeing myself rooting for #07 the last half of this year. The math factor is against #07, but anything is possible when the extra effort is added. Go SMOKE!

October 31, 2007 at 9:30 am
(19) Ed says:

Jason H. You state without this stupid format, Gordon would have his 6th champioship wrapped up. Where did I miss his 5th championship? You would think he would have to have won 5 before he wrapped up his 6th???

October 31, 2007 at 9:32 am
(20) mobie says:

I do believe that Rusty Wallace is as good a commenter as any of the others are and certainly knows the drivers side of whats going on in a car compared to thos who have never even been in one lol .. maybe his style is differnt but he still does a good and imformative job … as for the chase i think between the top three it will be fun to watch these last few races …

October 31, 2007 at 11:21 am
(21) Mustang65 says:

Tyler20, what in the hell have you been watching for the last 20 years?

October 31, 2007 at 1:08 pm
(22) Bryan says:

Mustang65 I think Tyler20, Fred, and Sammer trying to get their kicks by saying those things and seeing what kind of reaction they get. None of them knows what their talking about most of the time anyway. Especially the latter two. 2 to 1 they are new bees to the sport their comments are disregarded.

October 31, 2007 at 1:48 pm

October 31, 2007 at 3:04 pm
(24) Sammer says:

Bryan, you would definitely loose that bet, and since you posted it twice (use a computer much) you have to pay 4 to 1. I have been watching this sport for more than 30 years, how bout you sport. The fact is that nobody heard of Jimmy Johnson until Hendrich took him in. I think Jr is a good driver. But, when you watch or read articles comparing Gordon to Sr, you constantly hear the question about what could Sr have done in a team like Hendrich. Sr joined a less than top team and turned it into one. Jr is taking the much much easier path.

October 31, 2007 at 3:17 pm
(25) Bryan says:

sammer you are correct I posted twice. The reason was the first one for some reason did not posted so I decided try again, my mistake uh well. Well you gave your opinion about Jr that is ok, it still disregarded. About Johnson, you are correct there too, I do not like him really he’s nothing more than a cookie cutter driver. Myself I don’t pay much attention to what I read I like to think that I have a mind of my own so I don’t need anybody to make my mind up for me. Oh, for your info I have been watching NASCAR starting from the early sixties. Oh yea you can take that sport comment with you too. Thank you very much!

October 31, 2007 at 4:12 pm
(26) Keith says:

Wow someone said on here that Dale Jr taking the easy way out? I think Bryan was right the other poster might be new to the sport. Drivers, for that matter all other kinds of sports people go from one team to another so they can be on a winning team. One has to go where the team owners are serious about winning.

October 31, 2007 at 6:24 pm
(27) Larry says:

If you two gentlemen have been watching NASCAR that long, Can either of you remeber Dale SR. comment after winning the second Brickyard race. That comment about JGordon. was national news that year.

October 31, 2007 at 8:39 pm
(28) Jeff says:

they need to decrease that stupid 10 pints for winning the race, the champ should be consistant not just winning. Decreaseing the field to 8 chasers might actually help too, because the chase sucks now and the only reason it was expanded to 12 drivers was so Jr. could make and he didnt, so much for that

October 31, 2007 at 9:38 pm
(29) Cody says:

Well i don’t think that Jr. Is taking an easy way out. I mean with multiple dnf’s this year he may not be as good as his daddy but soon will be! I’m only 23 but ive watched every NASCAR race i can! Dose that make me a lesser fan! Please let me know! My faverite driver is still Bobby Allison, Richard Petty, and many drivers from the sixties. For one reason only, it WAS NASCAR. Unlike today’s NASCAR! But I love JR because he has potential. I’m tired of JJ or JG, but you know what very good drivers! and happy that JR is leaving his Bitchy Mommy Dearest !! lol

October 31, 2007 at 9:55 pm
(30) MattFan says:

We get 10 pints for winning?
YeeeHaawww. Back to the moonshiner days!

Sorry Jeff, nothing personal, I just couldn’t help it.

NO! …water in the fuel???? you mean to tell me, its finally hitting Nascar….like every other gas station in the USA! WOW!! what a shocker!!!!lol
Guess all Octane rating is watered down?

(32) GhostSeeker says:

P.S. hope “the king” found his hat. probably on ebay by now!!!

November 1, 2007 at 10:40 am
(33) Bryan says:

Larry what is your silly point? Myself I don’t make a point remembering everything what drivers say, Not when Richard Petty started to race or Fireball Roberts or even now, So what is your point?

November 1, 2007 at 10:03 pm
(34) larry says:

Sorry, I just have problems with the one’s who have done it all or know it all! The answer was I am the first real Man to win the Brickyard 400.

November 1, 2007 at 11:42 pm
(35) Bryan says:

November 7, 2007 at 3:19 pm
(41) diesel says:

Common all of you, give it up for Jimmie Johnson, the reason alot of people aren’t in favor of him is because he wins so much, it’s always like that, (just like metallica) they are the sell out’s, he has been in the top 10 since his rookie year in NASCAR, so he deserves all the wins he is earning (like I said EARNING) so you can hate all you want, but do give up the FACT he is a great driver.

November 7, 2007 at 8:34 pm
(42) #20 rules says:

I said that I would never be interested in wrestling, but the way nascar is going it would be a better choice, they are both getting pretty fake. (car of tommorrow sucks)

November 8, 2007 at 1:53 am
(43) Patrick says:

Jr. would be 1st or 2nd in points if not for the motor issue so don’t say he is taking the easy way out, if wasn’t for the wicked step mother he would stay. I don’t blame him one bit go green!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

November 8, 2007 at 4:24 pm
(44) Dave says:

Why does Nascar help the Hendrick Team?

November 8, 2007 at 5:55 pm
(45) Bax says:

How can you race 26 races and have everyone stop and tell them to start the points again. I have been a nascar junkie but Im losing enterest fast

November 8, 2007 at 10:30 pm
(46) Dave says:

Why does Nascar help the Hendrick Team win?

November 10, 2007 at 9:19 am
(47) Mark says:

The Chase is a joke. Where is Bristol, Richmond, Darlington, The Brickyard, Daytona for god’s sake. How can you pick a champion without those(and don’t tell me they count because you have to do well to get it – if you can’t finish 12th, you’ve got no chance anyway). That makes it a joke to begin with.

Then you go and give the championship to a guy who got his a** kicked by over 400 points when you figure in all the tracks.

WHAT A JOKE. JOKE, JOKE, JOKE. Period. And everyone knows it.

November 11, 2007 at 9:35 am
(48) joe stinker says:

Right now nascar is a joke on ow they are doing things.

November 13, 2007 at 4:22 am
(49) ranemaker says:

have i heard correctly, nascar is blocking or not giving points to double breasted drivers .points only will be given to nextel races???

November 13, 2007 at 9:12 am
(50) lauleracing says:

Its sad when you hear people complaining about a driver winning and NASCAR helping. Could it be your jealous that a team can be so good. If you look back Jeff Gordon, Richard Petty and even Earnhardt Sr. and several other drivers have won several years in a row and no one complained about them.

November 13, 2007 at 9:26 am
(51) 1969RS says:

Hey Steve, why do we keep rehashing an old post?
This one first appeared back in October and it is back up again.
Guess the end of the season is getting boring.
Here is a topic sure to stir some opinions…..Buschwackers, should they be allowed?
For those that do not know what a Buschwacker is, it is the Cup drivers that come to the Busch (next year Nationwide Series)and race.
My opinion? They should not be allowed, or at least run with a handicap like best starting poistion being 20th, or no points awarded. I know there would be an argument for them being a fan draw, but they take money, air time, and seat time from up and coming drivers. How many non-Cup drivers are loose an oppertunity to race in the Busch series on a Saturday because a Cup regular has qualified and taken thier spot?
Interesting topic.

November 13, 2007 at 11:37 am
(52) john says:

1969RS, maybe the way the races have been lately, (the majority), the cars, the tracks, the drivers, all are cookie cutters, if you see one you seen them all. Therefore, why not the topics on here as well, Just joking around Steve, 1969rs, I have to say Steve you do a fine job at this putting up with all of us.

November 13, 2007 at 11:52 am
(53) 1969RS says:

John, you are 100% correct. Steve does a wonderful job, and I, as sure as all of you, appreciate his efforts to give us a place to discuss sometimes loved / sometimes hated sport called NASCAR.
It was not meant as a slam to Steve. If it was interpreted that way, Steve, please accept my heartfelt appoligy.

November 13, 2007 at 12:07 pm
(54) john says:

1969Rs Myself I didn’t take it that way, if that means anything. I too was funning. I do agree with you about the busch races and the cup drivers that is the biggest reason I don’t watch them. I watch ARCA when I can before I watch the busch races.

November 13, 2007 at 2:54 pm
(55) Steve McCormick says:

I’m not offended. It’s a valid point, but I’m left with a bit of a dilemma.

Which is less confusing? To have ten separate blog posts that all point to the same updated article or to update the blog post the same time I update the article?

I opted to recycle the post with the updated content rather than have old blog posts (the Chase is about to kick off) pointing to an article that mentions that the Chase is winding down.

Neither solution is ideal, but I like this one better.

Besides, reading the old posts as one long continuous scroll through the last ten weeks makes for some interesting reading.

November 13, 2007 at 8:01 pm
(56) Cody says:

I’m sick of the chase format. Since the first 26 races don’t count. I won’t watch them anymore. I will tune in to see if my guy is in the chase? If he is, I’ll watch the last ten races. If not, I won’t watch any of the races.

December 4, 2007 at 2:27 am
(57) TT says:

guys learn to spell Jimmie’s name right!!

also this would hav been gordons 6th cup if it werent for the chase!! >:-X

December 4, 2007 at 4:10 am
(58) Robbaf says:

I am wondering when NASCAR is going to restart races (after cautions) with the lap cars in line with the leaders. If they use the lucky dog rule, there is no reason with 50 laps to go for them to be in the front. Restart in the order that they come out of the pits. If there is a caution, highest lap car gets lucky dog. Less cautions and more racing.

December 4, 2007 at 7:51 am
(59) Stephanie says:

JEFF AND JIMMY BOTH SUCK the only thing good that has happened this year is that Dale Jr. is finally going to get away with cheating just like the two yo-yo’s mentioned above.

December 4, 2007 at 9:13 am
(60) 1969RS says:

Steve, why not open up new discussions like to allow or disallow Bushwackers, or the trend of open wheel drivers jumping ship to join Nascar, or who had the better speach at the award banquet (Tony of Jeff Burton), or maybe as we get closer to the Daytona 500, and they celebrate the big anniversary this next year, what is the most memorable Daytona race.

I guess when an old post goes away, it is kind of a relief because we tend to hash and rehash and many times, highjack the post in a different direction. It is good to see you post a new discussion thread to garner new discussions. Athough it always filters back to bashing Nascar, Jimmie and Jeff.

(61) john says:

Hey steve is it my computor or is it on your side when I click on the comments of your latest topic “Final 2007 chase standings” I’m reading post from way back in October mixed with 3 or 4 new ones.

December 4, 2007 at 11:41 am
(62) 1969RS says:

John, it is not your computer. If you scrollup and read posts 51 thru 55, you will see where I asked the same question about a month ago, and you will see Steve’s response.

Steve recycles (must be a tree hugger) old posts to bring up topics again. I think when the flames start dying down, he likes throwing fuel back on it again.
:-)

(63) john says:

1969rs Man I thought I was having a senior moment. I started to read them and did not pay attention to the dates & I thought I seen these before and yes I read the ones you made and it was me #52,54 that you was talking too about it.

December 4, 2007 at 12:19 pm
(64) Lou says:

First it was…
Larry, Moe & Curley,
then Manny, Moe & Jack,

And now the big three will be…

(A drum roll please!)

Jimmie, Jeff & Jr.

Just kiddin’ I love them all. I’m just suffering from withdrawal with no NASCAR to watch!

December 4, 2007 at 1:27 pm
(65) Steve McCormick says:

I know that you all don’t care for the recycled post.

The good news is that I only ever do this with the Chase contenders. You won’t have to deal with this again for a year.

It’s a function of updating existing content. If I don’t recycle the post then I have old posts pointing at new content.

December 4, 2007 at 2:04 pm
(66) john says:

One thing for sure is, no matter what the topic is people always going to bring up cheating. The winners have to cheat and the loosers don’t.

Then if that is the case then all the teams must draw a # out of the hat to see whose turn is to cheat. Because all the teams that been around for a while was on top one time or another. Look at the old teams like the Wood brothers, Petty, Hms, Childress, Rousch and countless others all been on top in the last fifty years.

The only ones on here that does not know all teams has cheated are the newbee’s. Who said it couple of months ago nascar should give out test out to all the new fans so they can make sure they understand the sport. In some cases give renewal test to some old feable ones. LOL

December 4, 2007 at 2:46 pm
(67) HotRod says:

LOL Talk about Newbies, That would be these Wet behind the ears drivers.
They can’t test as they have no clue how a race car even works let alone the sport.
NASCAR needs to be tested as to see if they still really believe that we the fans are blind to the rigging that goes on to control events!
Test would look kinda like this:

1. Should we stop giving the top 35 owners a free ride?
2. Should we stop throwing yellow’s to
control race out comes?
3. Should we stop trying to be a ball sport and face the face we race cars?
4. Should we stop acting like we fine and take away points to cheaters just to reset the field for the so called chase?
Okay well add a few and lets keep the list going, Maybe in the end Bill Jr.
will pay attention to what the fans like and want.
Remember NASCAR has nothing to sell that we have to have!!
NO FANS NO NASCAR!

December 4, 2007 at 3:23 pm
(68) 1969RS says:

I agree John, Steve is cheating by recyling old posts!

:-)

Just kidding Steve. We all love what you do with this post (old or new) and you put up with our rants, hijackings, and venting and we appreciate you providing a source for us to turn to for discussing the sport we love (sometimes hate), NASCAR.

December 4, 2007 at 3:31 pm
(69) 1969RS says:

To continue HotRod….
5. Should we limit drivers to thanking only two sponsors during an interview?

6. Do we stop trying to make NASCAR into IROC? Run what ya brung!

7. Do we lower ticket prices at the races so we actually do sell out and there is a demad for our race tickets?

7A. Is a seat really worth $125 crammed between two sweaty overweight guys when I can recline in my chair at home in front of my 65″ TV and not have the traffic problems, high hotel bills, high food / beverage costs at the track?

December 5, 2007 at 12:41 pm
(70) john says:

8. If there is going to be a fine handed down should we fine the driver’s that whine about being touched on the track? After all it is racing, things do happen.

9. Should the drivers be censored by NASCAR for their frustrations against NASCAR?

10.Should the cup drivers be allowed to race in the Busch/truck races? Knocking out up and coming new drivers chances?

December 6, 2007 at 6:40 am
(71) Modoc says:

NASCARDUDE, If it seems to good to be true, it probably is not true. Be careful! Good luck as well! Check B.B.B. in your area as well.
1969RS, Smoke and some of the other drivers own a busch car or NASCAR or sprint car and if they put up that much cash then shouln’t they be able to determine who the driver is? Why shouldn’t they be able to run? A lot of the drivers are very giving back to the people in need and become very involved in making a huge differance. Smoke for one has bought the Eldora Speedway around Rossberg Ohio and has brought in several big name drivers and has sell out crowds to make racing availabe for people in a 100 mile radious. He spent Millions just to purchase the track(and didn’t even get the land the people park on)then why can’t he drive his own Busch car or hire another NASCAR driver? Here in the midwest our motto is DO IT ON THE DIRT! MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

December 6, 2007 at 12:09 pm
(72) john says:

I believe Arca, NASCAR’s West, East I believe central too, and the Busch are stepping-stones for the drivers to get to the big time CUP league. (Just like the baseball minors I.E. AA, AAA to get to the Majors).
The stepping-stones gives the younger or other drivers the skills they need to be on top one day, if they want.
When a driver in the cup drives in the Busch, it denies other up and coming drivers that opportunity. NASCAR made some rather dumb rules in the past, but I think one rule they don’t have, and should have. A cup driver cannot drive in both leagues. If the driver not up to par or in Hammlen’s says he needs more seat time, then put them back in the Busch.
That rule should be true if a driver owns a car or not. Only exception would be if there is not enough cars for the field, then and only then the cup drivers be allowed to race, and then they start from the back, no points no or very little prize money.
Also if a cup driver goes back to the Busch for any reason, then they should be a Minimum amount of time they have to stay there, plus they should be a minimum amount of time for a new driver have to stay in the Busch before going to the Cup. Give them a chance to grow up a little, so we may have a smaller chance of getting anymore of the immature kids is out there now in the cup. I would say maybe they won’t whine as much, but whining always have been in racing, look at Petty, he did his fair share, look at this site, they gather on here. Ha

Thank You Modoc, Merry Christmas you too.

Is this Sammer guy on drugs? Jimmie wins two years in a row and finishes in the top two for the last four years. Not mediocre to me!

December 6, 2007 at 10:10 pm
(74) Modoc says:

Just one quickcomment. There are drivers who cannot seem to make it in the big leagues or even in the busch series. Tracy Hinds from New Castle In. has never quite Made the hump. Now that being said could they have a Nationwide Good ole boy’s that are not so lucky weekend? Look at what Clint Boyer said at the NASCAR awards.. How that man got my cell phone number is beyond me. You would have to have seen the program to understand. Later

Steve, I have been real lax about getting on your site very much this year.
What are your thought’s about NASCAR and their future in all the turmoil that is going on with GM and Ford?
Has everyone secured sponcers for next year?
