Jeff Gordon Extends His Chase Lead With Lowes Win

Saturday October 13, 2007
Jeff Gordon made it interesting near the finish of the 2007 Bank of America 500. His car sputtered while leading during a late race restart handing the lead to Ryan Newman. When Newman found the wall a couple of laps later nobody knew if Gordon could make it to the finish.

Jeff Gordon got a good restart during the green-white-checkers overtime sprint to the checkers. It turns out that he not only had enough fuel to win the race but he was still able to perform a burnout after the race and drive it to Victory Lane.

Gordon extended his point lead and seems to be the man to beat for the 2007 Championship.

It was a good race for sure. I am so happy Jeff got his 81st win tonight. Of course ESPN did a usual bad show. We can only hope they don’t do it next year. We miss so much on their shows. I always tell Rusty to shut up!!

Leanna, like I said, watch it on tv & listen to it on the radio!!! No More RUSTY BS!!!!!

I found it strange that the last yellow in the Lowes race was just long enough so Gordon was able to finish.Just a coincidence I suppose!!!!!

There was so much said about Gordon bumping JR. Didn`t JR say he was sorry for bumping somebody last race.

(6) Paul Dunbar says:

ESPN for sure did a bad show. Why 5 yellow laps with only 10 laps to go??After such a long red flag clean up.Rusty wallace is sure got a big mouth.Just a little tired on that and the 2 of them carrying on about Gordon bumping Jr sure was pathetic.
Felt sorry for Ryan Newman though.Good win for Gordon as he has a quick car towards the end

Nice job Jeff Gordan I’m so glad you won no 81 you do deserve it. People just can’t stand that your no1 you were no1 before the chase started now your right back at no1. You should be the spokesman for nascar not Earnhart. You are the best of alltime because it is harder to win in this age then in years past.

good job RUSTY

(9) GordonFan says:

Way to go Jeff! Sad that Rusty Wallace had to be one of the announcers on this day. Does a lousy job and just wouldn’t shut up. Talk about egging a confrontation on. Can hardly wait to GET DW back on. ESPN would do well to get someone else as no one seems to like RW on the mike. Anyway, it was one hell of a finish and well deserved. You just gotta love that BOY! Hated to see Newman wipe out that. Would have liked to see him get a top five at least.

Rusty is a great commentator, hope he becomes a regular. Can’t figure out how the Rocket Man’s tires lost grip on his spin-out…????

(11) Dot says:

I am happy that Jeff won again. These last 2 races have been exciting in the last 20 laps or so. He is one of the best drivers I have seen in a very long time. To bad others who are more popular can’t say the same thing, but I guess we’ll really see next season when the Hendrick teams line up. CAN’T WAIT!!!!!

(12) Smoke62 says:

I have come to the conclusion that we all just need to sit back in our recliners and have a beer (or two) and watch the race. It doesn’t do any good to complain about anything. It’s Nascar’s baby, let them raise it.

(16) 9 fan says:

Hey next year after JR becomes part of the TEAM, wouldnt it be sweet if GORDON won every single race. Bring a little BADLY NEEDED excitement to NASCAR. OH Im sorry I forgot one detail. Lets run EVERY race on 1&1/2 mile TRI-OVALS.

Look at the thrills.. 1 track, 1 car, 1 winner. CAN IT GET ANY BETTER REALLY?

Just cant wait to read the sarcastic snotty remarks after my extremely snotty sarcastic remark.

Congrats Jeff

I just have 2 say this, 1st of I’m not a fan of the 24 or the 48. But give Gorden his due he’s haven the year of his career n nobody can touch him. I have been watchn’ nascar 4 many years. And I haven’t seen someone run so consisdent since the 03 car domination. Also how bout Denny Hamlin in his 2nd yr hes made the chase twice n no 1 has ran so consisdent all season.

9 fan, responding to your comment – we just consider the source. Being a Fluke Kasey fan and all. If I said it once, I said it thousand times the best thing Kasey done for the sport of Sprint car racing was to leave Washington state.

October 14, 2007 at 10:50 pm
(19) 9 fan says:

I guess if we grew up next door to ANYONE you could find flaws in them. Not growing up around someone you tend to not see the flaws so much. WASHINGTON STATE–maybe its a good thing you are SOOOOOOO far away. (from me and possibly society in general)

Just remember everyone has opinions, Yours is acceptable to me, WHY isnt mine acceptable to you. You dont have to like KASEY WHO CARES, no one says that we all have to like the same person.

October 14, 2007 at 11:18 pm
(20) 9 fan says:

OK I thought everyone would realize THAT WAS A JOKE!!!!!!!

As far as what Kasey did in Washington I have no control of. Maybe he will grow up a bit. He is still very young. But to prove a point, I grew up racing against AND living near the WALLACE boys. RUSTY may get an everyones nerves now, but him and MIKE was the most helpful guys in local racing back in those days. MAYBE we shouldnt dwell so much on a persons past, and let them grow.

(21) Washington state says:

9 fan you are right I been foolish, I said things to you that I should have never said, I’m Sorry.

Kasey is still a Fluke though!

(22) Lauren says:

Why even have the rest of the races, just give it to Gordon. I haven’t even gave a year to this sport and already I am tired of it. This chase stuff is stuipd, if it’s down to 12 then the rest should just not run. If this is the play-off’s of NASCAR then every race should just keep eliminating driver’s until 2 are left, then see who’s the best. Come on Tony, snap out of it and win, Darnit! Don’t let Gordon win, don’t give up.

October 15, 2007 at 2:14 pm
(23) GordonFan says:

Washington? Why are you so down on Casey Kahne? What have I missed that makes him so bad? Seems like a nice kid that wants to win races.

October 15, 2007 at 2:51 pm
(24) Washington state says:

Gordonfan Well I just guess you would have to live here when he was racing sprints to know.

(25) dee says:

Take time to research the sport and listen to the announcers. You will learn that Nascar is going bigggggg business. It is no longet a sport, it is a business. They may appear to compete but it is all about big bucks and getting rich for everyone involved. From the track owners to the t-shirt makers. The good ole boy sport that started this mega industry doesn’t exist anymore. I have wasted my last few hours in front of a tv watching it. If you listen carefully they pave the way for the winners and they pave the way (brainWash) the fans to eccept everthing change nascar makes before it happens. If nascar fans stayed home for one month, or turn the channel for one month. You would see the mega business get back like it used to be. Honestly, you haven’t heard a driver thank the fans like Mark Martin did in a long time. The drivers are so pressured to do the business end for everyone involved, that they don’t even know the fans are there. That is why the sport is losing its fan base.

WASHINGTON STATE It seems maybe both of us got a bit hasty. Im usually not so quick to correct others. Ive just been in a real raunchy mood lately, not sure why. Maybe the onset of winter here and time to put the RV away YUCK! Anyway I need to apologize some too. Sorry !!
