2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Schedule

Monday October 8, 2007
NASCAR Sprint CupNASCAR recently announced the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule. There are very few changes from the 2007 calendar. The Sprint Cup series now starts off with 5 races before the first break. This makes more sense to me than NASCAR taking a week off after just two points races.

The other notable change to the schedule is that the July 12th race at Chicagoland Speedway is scheduled for Saturday night under the lights. I am a big fan of Saturday night races and am always happy to see NASCAR expand into more fan-friendly Saturday races.

You make us proud Jeff. Had us a little worried there for a while Sunday, but like the trooper you are, you came thru, even if it took a little help from “Smoke”.

(6) Jeff says:

THEY NEED TO ADD MORE ROAD RACES. I dont care if its in the US, Mexico, or Canada but road course racing produces some of the best races of the year, and that will continue as road racing better suits the COT. They need to eliminate boring races like Pocono, California, and Atlanta or just cut them back to one race. And they need to bring North Wilkesboro back.

And chocsea your question about “that V guy from open wheel cars” is referring to 1997 World Champion Jauqes Villeneuve who finished 21st in just his first NASCAR start. He has a lot more talent than most of the other NASCAR champions (note the World Champion=F1). Not even Montoya can say he’s a world champ or anybody else in NASCAR for that matter.

(7) Reggie says:

“V” is head and shoulders better driver
than Montoya but watch out for the next
transfer “F”

(8) Robert says:

to Jeff, Well if the V guy and F1 is so great, why did he come over to nascar,if the drivers in nascar dont have any talent and the v guy has it all, its not going to prove much even if he does get lucky and win a race, but I guess we will see time will tell where the talent is.

(9) so there says:

World champ don’t mean anything unless you like that kind of race. World champ is just a name if he was a real world champ that mean he is a world champ in ALL type of races not just F1.

Jeff here is some news for you. V maybe the world champion for F-1!!!! Not the rest of the racing world. Big Difference!!!!!!!!

(11) Jeff says:

Let’s see Villeneuve is an Indy 500 winner as a rookie in 1995, CART champion as a rookie in 1995, F1 rookie of the year in 1996, and F1 world champion in 1997. Plus 9 GP wins to his credit. Only Montoya comes close with 7 GP wins.

The reason why he is out of F1 is that he is 34 years old. That’s the equivlent to a 50 year NASCAR driver (i.e. Dale Jarrett). Unlike Montoya who just walked out on McLaren last year, Villeneuve decided to leave because he figured his carreer in F1 was coming to an end so he decided to leave BMW to let Kubica get some seat time. He actually took an entire year off before coming to NASCAR.

And Villeneuve IS a WORLD champion. Because what is the most popular form of motorsport in the world…Formula 1. I don’t see NASCAR racing in 18 diferent countries a year thus NASCAR is just the championship of stock cars. I wouldnt go as far as calling it a world championship yet, since they only race here.

(12) Gary Sr says:

You guys that want to see more road races are watching the wrong series of races, Nascar drivers are oval racers and Nascar should stick to the ovals

(13) An Opinion says:

Jeff, Jeff still have not figure it out. I don’t care they race F1 in 2 to 100 countries. A world champ only in F1 not all forms of racing no one ever said nascar was a world champion. Then again how many people watch f1 champ etc here in the usa? Three maybe? maybe you should stick with f1. Oh yea how many cars they have 20 on a good day? i really don’t know and don’t care.

October 10, 2007 at 11:09 am
(14) ha says:

Yea we don’t see 100,000 plus people watching those races over there either.

(15) Mick20 says:

I agree with numbers 12,13 &14!!! NASCAR already has to many road races!! Oval is the ticket, if you think it is to boring to watch, maybe you should be one of the 20 or 30 people from the USA that watch F1!!!

October 10, 2007 at 3:37 pm
(16) Paul says:

I think nascar should go back to the days when stock car racing was racing stock cars. Different body styles for each style of car. Just let them boy run. like back in the good ole days.
Thanks, Paul

Pauls got it right

(18) Glen says:

I am disapointed in the fact of the world champ & Indy drivers are coming into NASCAR. I was a Indy fan about 30 years ago with Foyt, Allison and etc. I lost interest when unknown drivers started appearing. I did not know who was who. That is when I switched to MASCAR racing. Nascar drivers are people that we feel we know. They grew up racing in our back yards and still come back to visit our back yards. I really feel that they are making a mistake bringing in drivers that we have no conection to. Time will tell.

(19) Smoke62 says:

I’m not a F1 fan, but I have to say the V guy seems so far to be fairly smart. He qualified at the front of the pack at Talledega and then, before the race even started, he pulled aside and let the whole field pass him so he wouldn’t cause an accident while trying to learn to drive in Nascar. He drove all day and stayed accident free. Seems to me to be fairly smart.

(20) Ricky says:

Well i got to say V guy sure knows what he’s doing. He had a great race at a track whee he was given a lot of b.s for making his first start there

(21) Andy Ducther says:

How many night races are there schedualed for the 2009 NASCAR season? I would really like to know this as I am gathering information on demographics.
