Stewart Wins Thrilling NEXTEL Cup Road Race

Sunday August 12, 2007
The 2007 Centurion Boats at The Glen was a great NASCAR road race. The finish of this one had a little bit of everything. Kevin Harvick and Juan Pablo Montoya got into a physical altercation after spinning together on the track. Then Jeff Gordon spun out of the lead with less than two laps to go. The last twenty laps of this race featured some of the most exciting road racing in NASCAR history.

Will NASCAR penalize Harvick and Montoya for the shoving match? I hope they do not since this incident was certainly not "detrimental to stock car racing." This was exciting, high energy racing and great for the sport.

Maybe I should have watch it, the race sounded it got more exciting(I guess they are always a first time- even for a road race be exciting), I started too then got bored Then I switched it to watch The outlaws at Knoxville. Knoxville was a rerun from last night, so I decided to watch it again.

I hope people don’t come on here and say the silly thing I am sure glad my kids didn’t watch the harvick thing. They didn’t watch it or hear it because they where watching worse things on TV in the other room. HA

Is harvick already on probation or did I got him mixed up with another driver. It’s hard to tell them apart, you know with the Cookie cutters drivers and all.

(3) Mick20 says:

Well, this was better than the last two road races. Before anybody starts crying about Jeff’s spin remember, he got first place when Tony spun on the same corner! This was a very hard fought race & the reason most people watch in the first place. Looks like DEI needs to start buying their engines instead of building them!!!

(4) Tyler20 says:

It was a very exciting race…there were drivers passing in the grass, through the gravel…it will go down as one of the most exciting races of the year.I have never seen so many drivers driving that hard before..it just shows Nascar is still the greatest racing show on the earth.Tony also show why he’s a two time champ..he stayed focused even after he spun,Blamed himself, and came back to win….Will anyone remember that if he makes a mistake in the future?…

(5) Smoke62 says:

Amen Tyler20, Gooood race, and yes Stewart did blame himself for the spin and just got down to business and worked himself back to the win.

Waaaaaaaaaaa!! Can anyone cry and whine more than Keven Harvic? As far as i’m concerned he gives race car drivers a baaaad image to the fans. He is one of those wusses that likes to dish it out but cry’s like a baby when someone touches him even if it wasn’t there fault. He needs a good a–s kicking.

I have to admit, Harvick seemed to be out of line on this one. Montoya gets the rap for smashing people out of the way, etc., but today was not the case and Harvick should take a look at the tape and apologize to Montoya, in my opinion. Great race today, still pissed off that Nemechek and Marlin got hosed, but nobody else seems to care so it will go unnoticed I suppose. Boris Said showed again why he deserves a full-time ride.

(8) Leanna says:

I am sorry Jeff didn’t win of course but from what I saw during a yellow light. Tony and Hamlin were talking about Jeff being up from of Hamlin, Tony told him and the world do it after this cause he is still there. Then stupid Harvick started a fight, worked on his car during a caution, said Bad words. It was a good race but way different than the last races. I am very sure Harvick will get punished as he should. Others I am not sure. So much was out of hand today. That is my thoughts for today. Have a good week everyone.

Guess that what happens when a person gets a reputation, the first time that was not his fault others automatic think he did it out of reflex.

August 13, 2007 at 12:52 am
(10) Smoke62 says:

Montoya was not at fault in the Harvick incident, these guys race hard and everyone races for the same real estate. If each driver didn’t push their cars as hard as they could and try to get to the front it wouldn’t be called racing.

(11) oletimer says:

when a car owner has to go to the nascar trailer and remind them what their rules are, it’s getting sad…

(12) Leo Z says:

Wow what a race ! Hats off to Tony .I would have to say Truex Jr may of hit Juan because of Juan’s failure to get up to speed with his first gear troubles .Harvick is wild for sure but this time he’s out of line .I think Jeff Burton was right about Juan ,he sould of held his brakes .Any way you look at it I was digging it !! Gald no one got hurt .I hope Nascar leaves this one alone ,Just Good Racing !!

i’ve been around racing of all kinds for many years. agressive driving is a part of what racing is all about. tempers flare when so much is at stake. lighten up everyone! if stewart and harvicks comments are the worst things your kids ever hear, they’ll be just fine.

(14) cathy weimer says:

by the way, great race today! tony, you deserved your win!

(15) Lloyd says:

I love ECW on NASCAR. Harvick needs to be penalized for his actions. He should loose both his own and owner points over this incident. Montoya, although innocent in this instance, needs a good talking too. Why did he get out of his car in the first place? Why did he walk over to Harvick and just add fuel to the fire? Which is better Shell, or Texaco. These questions need to be addressed by NASCAR.

August 13, 2007 at 9:49 am
(16) Richard says:

Did I hear wrong or did The winner of the craftsman truck race say hell yea at the end of his spin out? Why no fine for language? Whats good for the goose is good for the gander. Great road race
Sunday.

(17) get real says:

Fined this person-fined that person for being human just like you. You people complaining over what? If you think they should be fined for what they are doing, and you think they should control their actions, and there are the ones are in the middle of it? You people should be fined because of your actions because you are just watching it on TV and you cannot control yours and spew it on here. You people so worried about a few little words and a little emotion are making NASCAR a laughing affair. Hope you people do not ever watch other sports or TV, movies or go out in the public if this little stuff what NASCAR bothers you so much.

Maybe you people be happier if the drivers wear little TU TU’s with flowers on them instead of race suits. Say to each other every time before they get in their car “let me know when you going to pass I will pull over and stop to let you go by”, and blow you a kiss on top of that.

August 13, 2007 at 10:27 am
(18) Gregg says:

I think Harvick had every reason to be upset. Juan chooses the wrong first gear for restarts and leaving the pits, so he is slow on restarts. To make up for that setup mistake, he drives with his mirror and blocks all the way down the straight. The line he was taking would have put him into ANYONE that was in that corner no matter if we were hit from behind. You can not enter a hard right corner at speed ON the right hand edge of the track. I was excited when Juan came to NASCAR, but I think he feels he is above everyone. He makes STUPID dives into places where he never would have in a open wheel car. Ask Scottie Pruit how he feels about Juan’s driving!

August 13, 2007 at 12:24 pm
(19) shell says:

I think Kevin should be upset,Juan tryinig to be the tuff guy WHATEVER!!!!!! Hats off to Harvick for keeping it together I wanted to jump through the screen an pop Juan!!!!!!

(20) Larry says:

Fresh Blood, this must be Harvick’s week the complainers against. Last week it was Tony, before that it was Juan, and before that? One thing for sure is that this site is an Equal Opportunity site. I do have to agree this site is full of I do no wrong complainers. This site reminds me of bunch of mosquitoes, suck the life out a person then you head for the next human.

August 13, 2007 at 2:20 pm
(21) Jennifer says:

I agree with Richard that what is good for one should be good for the other. I do think that both Harvick and Montoya should be fined and penalized because Harvick may have gotten out of his car to confront Montoya first, but Montoya was the one doing the pushing and shoving. Also, fine the winner of the truck race and what about Kyle Petty when he was to be the on-track reporter? When he spun, he used the f word knowing his radio transmissions were going to be heard by fans. Nothing has been said of this incident, but I think it is the same as the others. Aw, I forgot, his daddy is the so-called “King.” Wouldn’t want to step on those cowboy boots now would we?

August 13, 2007 at 3:27 pm
(22) An Opinion says:

The key word’s is THERE SHOULD BE NO FINES. Fines for what- being human, and certainly not what everyone of us hear everyday in our homes, work, shopping and the TV programs we all watch. Oh yea, I forgot NASCAR Hollywood image, and then again look at Hollywood image portrays. They don’t go hand in hand do they? I do not like hear people to use excessive bad language but I like to see real people with their honest emotions, and not NASCAR robots.

August 13, 2007 at 4:01 pm
(23) An Opinion says:

I think before every race they should fine every person in the pits, pit crews, owners, officials just in case they may say a bad word and someone may hear it.
Then they should fine (add it to the ticket prices) every fan in the grand stands because, you know the words that comes out of their mouths when something happens good or bad to their driver.

OK, It’s not okay to use the s–T word or say hell or damn on TV if you are watching NASCAR but it is okay to turn on a movie (prime time) with your family and here the Lords name taken in vain every other word?

Come on people!! NASCAR–How Bad Have You Got IT!!!!

(26) joe stinker says:

Ok here is my 2 cents about the race on Sunday. It was the best road course race yet to date. The cot junk went around like bricks on wheels that was easy to see. Kevin/Juan small stuff nothing like what happen at the track in turn 3-4 at a 1979 race, remember Old timers? I think some of you have nothing else to do except gripe at nothing.

August 13, 2007 at 5:05 pm
(27) Jennifer says:

It’s Jennifer, thank you and yes Kyle Petty was the on-track reporter a couple of races ago, just as they have had the last few races and when you are the on-track reporter you know that what you say will be available for all to hear. Why do you think they didn’t ask Juan about the wreck as soon as it happened, they waited until the end of the race.

August 13, 2007 at 5:12 pm
(28) Bob says:

If nascar tells the media to watch their mouths, the media may pull out and the france family would have to go on food stamps. You don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Well they shouldn’t but nascar has bite the hand that made them the fans, but they wont bite the cash flow.

(29) willy says:

Im a 24 fan,but I have to admit, that was the best race Ive seen in a long time Start to finish! As far as 29 vs 42 that stuff happens. There were no punches thrown so leave it as just another memorable Nascar moment. But Harvik knows about the money and more importantly the points for language.Im sure Jr.Would like to have his points back.

August 13, 2007 at 8:46 pm
(30) hughes says:

They didn’t ask Juan about the wreck as soon as it happened because they would not have understood a word he said! Go Harvick! Great race Tony!

Gerry I Second that!

August 13, 2007 at 10:56 pm
(32) Lloyd says:

Dear Joe Stinker,
At 60 years plus I am an old timer and still think Kevin and Juan need spankings, at least, for their actions. However, NASCAR has never been uniform in it’s punishment as Willy points out relating to Junior. How about that penalty given to Robby Gordon? Was that fair? NASCAR had two drivers that were close to blows, if the officals hadn’t stepped between them. Then you had “one real cool kat” (My age is really showing) named Jeff Burton who was involved in the same crash attempting to get some sense into Kevin. While maintaining his cool like the professional he is. However, for those who think neither Kevin, nor Juan should get a penalty. Lets get the man that started their debate, Martin Truex, Jr. and yes this was one hell of a road race.

(33) MattFan says:

That was a good race, and just so everyone will know, that was not me with the cap and the Sharpie. I had to laugh out loud though.

August 14, 2007 at 12:02 am
(34) Smoke62 says:

Hey MattFan, It’s Ok if it was you. I don’t think Nascar is looking to fine the man cause as far as I could tell he didn’t curse.

August 14, 2007 at 8:28 am
(35) joe stinker says:

Lloyd, Sounds like I’m not far behind you on age. When people get emotional tempers will fly in the sports arena and everyday life, look on this site how emotions flare. Although I do not agree of the two of them of their actions, it is life. My guess and only a guess Harvick know the Juan as the reputation of spinning others out and he was fed up with it, and too he didn’t know there were another car that caused it, but who knows goes through their minds. If anybody is guilty of the Kevin/Juan, thing I would place both at fault neither one of them was walking away from each other. They should not have gotten out of their cars, unless they could not be driven. Again emotions and everybody has them. You had asked me about Robby G. penalty, No I don’t think it was fair, never said it was either. NASCAR should have left the Busch deal in the Busch race and not carried it over to the cup. Therefore, I’m not sure why you asked the question. I also agree NASCAR not uniform in its punishment. Then again, I think NASCAR goes to far when they call an infraction of the rules. As in the next new topic, I agree with Steve NASCAR uses that rule for just about anything.
