Rain Crushes Boris Said's Pepsi 400 Dreams

Friday July 6, 2007
Boris Said had his hopes crushed during qualifying for Saturday night's Pepsi 400. Boris was on the provisional pole. Unfortunately the rain came before qualifying was complete. This forced NASCAR to toss out Boris' fast lap and start the race based on car owner points.

Unfortunately for Said, he does not have enough car owner points to make the race. Boris Said then went from starting on the pole to missing the show completely. This is brutallly bad luck for Said, his team, and the legion of Said-Heads that follow his career.

I would like to see Boris Said get a full-time ride in NEXTEL Cup racing. I think he is very talented and has proven that he deserves a shot at NASCAR's top level.

This it it I can not take this so dumb
mistakes that Brian France could bend so low! I have been watching racing since Cris Econamcy sorry for the spelling but I am so mad that I can’t think straight,in the late 60’s I can not and will not watch one more second
of nascrap again they have just ruined it beyond fixing because they are to busy fixing the races ! NO MORE I WILL NOT EVEN READ ABOUT IT IN THE NEWS PAPERS I WILL TURN OFF ANY MENTION OF IT THERE ARE JUST TO MANY OTHER THINGS TO DO. PLEASE SOMEBODY START ANOTHER SERIES TO REPLACE THIS SAD EXAMPLE OF nascar

(2) BIGBOBSR. says:

I know! I know! NASCAR did it again.Jeff did’nt get a good starting position so NASCAR made it rain out time trials so Jeff could start up front. To bad, so sad. Its just good luck.

(3) Huntertex2 says:

Nascar has gone to Corporate America. Its becoming just like the NFL. We now have luxury boxes at historic venues that used to be about the fans and their lifestyle ( by that I mean beer drinking and family bonding) Leave it to the Corp bone heads to once again screw up the spirit of competiton

(4) renee says:

It is sad considering they could have finished the qualifing on sat morning there where not that many more to quaify. It does make you wonder what the “nascar” was thinking or where they.Hoping for a good race but this will be hanging over it the rest of the year.

July 6, 2007 at 10:37 pm
(5) Leo Z says:

Rain happens but you gotta feel for Boris .This guy is what Nascar needs ,such a great personality and even temper .They should take a poll of the fans as to who they would like to see driving and then have sponsors take a look ! Go Boris you got my vote ..

July 6, 2007 at 11:17 pm
(6) Audrey says:

I think this is just wrong. About 4 of the top 5 or 6 fastest cars have to go home now. And I really feel for Boris. They could’ve at least tried to finish qualifying Saturday morning before the BGN race or something. This taints the race and it’s not even going to be enjoyable to watch it knowing that the driver who earned the pole postion was thrown out of the race. It’s not right.

(7) Steve Amaon says:

Nascar used to have a second round of qualifying in the good old days….I think they should bring it back for situations such as this. Boris should be in a full time ride. He’s talented, personable and an asset to the sponsors even if he’s not a “prety boy”! There’s no excuse for Boris to not have a full time ride….he’s proven himslef far beyond some of these yoyos that have fulltime rides!!!! Boris fan forever!!!!!

(8) thekingcobra63 says:

Well, I am a Boris Said fan, and this was a bad break for him this week. I wonder why the guy can’t get a full time ride, he qualifies well whenever he does get a chance, and you know you are guaranteed at least two top ten finishes on the road courses, why won’t anyone give the guy a shot? Anyway, for me it’s another reason to have less interest in the race this week. At least NASCAR cannot keep Nemechek out this week too.

(9) rangerfivezero says:

NASCAR would be the next candidate for a radical glassectomy.
This I fear is the only chance for them to see where they should be going with their heads up their collective corporate, bureaucratic asses!

(10) Leanna says:

I can’t believe what I am reading. Sorry guys but Nascar is not GOD and he is only one that can control the rain. It was 14 cars still and Busch starts very early on Sat. That is 5am on the west coast. So earlier? I would doubt that. Get over it please.

July 7, 2007 at 3:14 am
(11) 9 fan says:

I HAVE NO OPINION!!!!!! First time ever I have NO opinion, at least none that I care to share. I realize NASCAR can not control the weather. I also realize they have to TRY to be fair to all. I have sais so many times on here, LUCK is your best friend. EVEN the worlds greatset driver (some might say Jeff) would be zero without great LUCK. I do feel for Boris and the others. I for one truly WISH that NASCAR would reconsider ALL of their rules, but till they do, this is what we have. Lets enjoy please. GO KASEY

(12) Said Head 60 says:

Boris was robbed…plain & simple. But, despite the terrible disappointment–he was still the perfect gentleman during his interviews – exhibiting the kind of sportsmanlike conduct I want my young son to emulate. To me – giving Boris a full-time ride should be a “no brainer”. He’s a talented, respected, experienced driver. He’s an intelligent, supportive spokesperson for NASCAR. He has a witty, charismatic personality and a legion of dedicated fans. He SO DESERVES a full-time ride. I wish I had the money…I’d invest in him myself!

July 7, 2007 at 6:50 am
(13) Tyler 20 says:

It’s not fair but Rules are Rules….Everyone know’s what will happen if it rains during qualifing,it’s not always fair but it is what it is.

We can only hope Crybaby Gordon goes down in the first lap

July 7, 2007 at 9:14 am
(15) MISSY says:

IF BORIS SAID IS SUCH A GREAT DRIVER DON’T YOU THINK HE WOULD HAVE A FULL TIME RIDE BY NOW I MEAN HE HAS BEEN A FILL IN FOR SO MANY YEARS NOW ..THINK ABOUT IT..YEAH HE MIGHT BE A NICE GUY BUT THAT ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE CAR OWNERS TO INVEST MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN…HOW MANY OF THESE RACES THAT HE HAS BEEN IN HAS HE WON OR EVEN FINISHED!!

July 7, 2007 at 9:48 am
(16) Jeff B says:

Well this is a tough break adn i am very sad to se it. I think Nazcar has to look @ this top 35 lock in. I know they did After the 9/11 Tragedy to keep the Full time sponsors around that were missing races. Back when they were Begginf Morgon and a few others to show up and run their 5 laps on raceday and park it. But now they have 48 – 50 Teams trying to committ to Full time. They need to change the system. Maybe do NO gauranteed spots and give every team in the top 25 6 provisionals for the whole year. Make every team earn it. I also think they should stop this BS of giving Points for leading a lap under Cautions. That will help the lower teams too since they all cant do it as not enough cautions. But if you had Every team worried about making or using a provisional and only having 5 or 6 of them for the whole year and you Dump the Champions Provisionals and you had 50 teams figting for spots every1 would show up to qualify and race and you wold truely see the best cars each week.

(17) scoop72 says:

NASCAR doesn’t think beyond the next lap! They make up the rules as situations arise which completely destroys their credibility. This rain-out deal should have been studied way before, and if it had a more justifiable solution would have come of it. They took the easy way out and just wiped out all of the hard work that the newer teams put into this effort. At least why not start the top 35 in order and let the others qualify for the last spots on speed? At least that would have rewarded those outside NASCAR’S “elite” who did the job. How many of the last 14 non-qualifiers would have had to take their time on Saturday, then? You may not have had to qualify all 14.

(18) barb says:

i think that this was unfair due to the fact that he was on the pole at this time. they should of at lease let him race even if it was in last place

July 7, 2007 at 11:47 am
(19) mary says:

I agree with scoop72—the sport is so ruined–that it doesn’t even have one image of what started it–and before anyone goes there–I know things change as times change–but now it’s the almighty dollar that controls this sport and we have ended up with crybaby spoiled drivers—
Say what you want–what they did last nite was beyond stupid and very unfair–
and it does discredit them—AGAIN!!!!
With all the resources available to them to monitor the weather–scheduling the Bush race for 9am–and the race is at 8pm tonite—PELEEEZZZEEEE!!!!!
I was an avid fan and had the good luck to be behind the scenes in this sport for a few years, because of my husband’s job—
NASCAR lost my interest–way before this happened–and one of these days–as they probably are feeling it to a degree now–it will continue to hit them in the pocketbook!!! I am sure Bill France Sr and Jr are rolling over in their graves to see what has happened to grand ole’ sport!!!!

(20) thekingcobra63 says:

MIssy, Boris Said has had 24 starts in cup racing with 2 poles, 2 top five finishes, six top ten finishes, and only five DNF’s. He has proven he can handle the level of racing and would do great with a full time team with any money behind it at all.

WHY IS MARK MARTIN SHOWN TO BE STARTING 9TH WHEN HE IS 20TH IN POINTS. WHAT UP WITH THAT???????????????

July 7, 2007 at 12:46 pm
(22) Tyler20 says:

Gordon is the Greatest Driver to come along in a long time…He should start first!..Boris should stop Crying…there lucky they even let him race from time to time.

July 7, 2007 at 1:34 pm
(23) scoop72 says:

So, Tyler20, if we followed your reasoning, we would dispense with that “outmoded” notion of qualifying, and just pick the ones we want to race. That would REALLY help the integrity of the sport! Individual effort should be rewarded at each venue.

July 7, 2007 at 1:59 pm
(24) MISSY says:

TO THE KINGCOBRA63..YOU HAVE NO DOUBT DONE YOUR HOMEWORK ON BORIS SAID…BUT THERE HAS TO BE A REASON WHY NO TEAM HAS PICKED HIM UP FOR A FULL TIME RIDE..I JUST CANT SEE THAT HE IS WORTH A FULL TIME RIDE…BUT THEN AGAIN I DON’T THINK JUAN P MONTOYA IS READY YET EITHER BUT HERE HE IS.

(27) Eric says:

I might be mistaken but this doesn’t even seem to be the first time THIS YEAR that Qualifing has been rained out. We should have at least learned this rain out rule last time. And I strongly believe that the top seven cars, that were go or go homers, Would have been so much of a liability during the race because of it being an Impound race. They were set up only for a two lap quaifying run. I feel as bad as you might think the rain out rule is it saved us a very big, very early crash. We’ll never know now but that’s how I FEEL>

(29) HarleyPilot says:

How about if everyone has to qualify to get in, no provisionals, no Past Champion, no Owner Points. If you can’t make the SHOW, then it’s Home you must go ! How many times have we seen a driver qualify 15th and had to go home. Oualify, and let the chips fall where they may. No matter what your name is, Stewart, Gordon, Johnson, Earnhardt, if you can’t beat the other drivers to get into the field then BYE-BYE !

July 7, 2007 at 4:41 pm
(30) Steve McCormick says:

RAYMAN: Mark Martin is starting 9th because qualifying is set by car owner points and not driver points.

Although Mark is 20th in points his car ran a few races without him and his car owner is 9th in points.

(31) Lloyd says:

The one consistent thing about NASCAR is it’s inconsistency. How many times this season alone. Have they changed the way a penalty for crew chiefs is to be served? How many times this season have they modified their rules? Example this morning when Kyle Bush used the grass to go three wide exiting pit row and take the lead? So using the rain as an excuse to stop of the top qualifiers for 2 nites Cup Race does not surprize me. Reality check people. NASCAR is out of touch with their fan base.

Did any one just catch Jimmie Johnsons comments on countdown to green? What was he talking about with past winners of Daytona?”36 years between their wins and the old days of crashing”.

July 7, 2007 at 8:52 pm
(35) Leanna says:

Eric, I saw it and he was talking to an older guy, forgot his name, that their wins are 36 years apart. But not sure what else. Did you see the 20 and 11 wreck again? Just like last year. Oh, I think they asked the older man if he wanted to race this race again. Dang my memory is not good on that.

The 20 car won this race last year.

July 7, 2007 at 9:47 pm
(37) John Anagnos says:

That’s it, I’ve had enough of this “France” Bull. You lost me as a fan and supporter. When a man qualifies his car, and is knocked out with a little weather, because his name isn’t Gordon, and he’s not kissing ass, I can’t stand it any longer. I’ll start watching IRL, Motorcycle or Horse Racing before I watch you guy’s again.
I feel it’s unfortunate that One individual can make this much difference. I have been a fan of Dale Earnhart, The King, Allison boys, and many more since I was a kid. And I think you’ve gotten away from “Rubbing Racing” and gone to the “more soft side”……..

July 7, 2007 at 11:29 pm
(38) Smoke62 says:

Nascar started out as bootleggers racing against other bootleggers to see who had the fastest car and the most driving ability. It ain’t that no more, not with the restrictor plate races and all the restrictions Nascar puts on them. Now it all depends on who wants to help you win with the draft. Got to say though, did like the wide open coverage of the race.
