Carl Edwards Flips For 2007 Michigan Win

Sunday June 17, 2007
The 2007 Citizens Bank 400 saw the top two finishers both overcome early troubles. Carl Edwards had to serve a penalty early in the race for speeding on pit road. Shortly after that Martin Truex Jr. was caught in a crash and spun down the backstretch without hitting anything. Both spent the rest of the race climbing back through the field.

Strategy played a large role today as it often does at Michigan. Jimmie Johnson didn't have enough gas to finish and there was doubt about many others at the end. Here is the full Michigan recap.

(2) JimT says:

I thought Nascar teams could only have 4 drivers. How come Rouch/Fenway has 5? Kenseth, Edwards, McMurry, Biffle and Ragan

(3) Leanna says:

I am not sure but I think it starts next year. I wonder who he lets go?

(6) Al Marks says:

since tnt took over the broadcasting I am haveing a real problem with hearing the announcers over the car and track noises. It was much better with fox. I have heard the same complaint from others. why can’t they do the same as fox did or give it back to fox

(7) motocrossed says:

HMS had team orders to hold back, they purposely put bad set of tires on JG and short filled JJ’s car then told him he wouldn’t run out of gas.
Good to see Roush racing back in the winners circle. Like I said last week, I think the 2nd half of the season will be more competitive, though I don’t think anyone will catch JG, he is having a great season.

(8) BWK says:

I think it was a class act for Rick Hendrick to give the orders “Let a Ford or Dodge win”

Just wish it would have been someone else other then “mommas boy”

(9) David says:

Could it be that the Hendrick Team just got beat today? What a bonehead move by Chad Knaus! But, I really don’t think Johnson had anything for Edwards or Truex or Stewart anyway.

Hello all. My Son took me to Six Flags today for Fathers Day. I saw or heard NOTHING about the race. I was very pleasantly surprised at the top 20 positions (ESPECIALLY CARL & MIKEY). I am so very glad to see these results, Im also thrilled that I was doing something extremely fun today and not stuck watching NASCRAP. (uhh I mean NASCAR) Im also happy to hear those who seem to like HMS giving a big CONGRATS to a different team for winning. %THATS WHAT A TRUE RACING FAN DOES % CONGRATS CARL and Hope your LUCK is changing MIKEY. I hope KASEY starts getting more luck here real soon too.

(11) Eric says:

I am not sure but I thought it was 1 person could only own 4 teams. Like Teresa Earnhardt owns 1,8,15,not that DEI couldn’t Field more cars if they were “owned” by some one else. If I am correct The 5 Rousch/Fenway cars are in fact listed as having 5 different owners Mike Dee#6,Jack Rousch#16,John Henry#17,Geoff Smith#26,and Georgetta Rousch#99 on Nascar.com. Just as the 4 HMS cars are owned by 3 different OWNERS 2 by Rick Hendrick 1 by Jeff Gordon and 1 by Mary Hendrick. Just Like Taxes and well Racing People will bend the rules(cheat, take any advantage they can get passed the “authority having jurisdiction”). Not to say they are adding feul additive, but they will work the system any way they can the name of the game is do whatever you can to run faster and last longer. If you dont think so ask them. There is no such thing as setting the cars up Identical and having better speed or feul milage. They run different because someone pushed the intent of the rules past they letter of the rules and they have to. I see it everyday in life and sports.

(12) 9 fan says:

as far as cheating is concerned Eric, well Gary Nelson admitted to that several years ago. Every team takes advantage of the GRAY AREAS of the rule book. As far as Roushs 5 race teams! Well NASCAR made it adamently clear no less than 10,000 times that the 4 team rule takes effect Jan 1, 2008. So as far as 2007 is concerned Roush, (or anyone else) can have 5 teams UNTIL 1/1/08 Thanks for your question Eric.

(13) mkb says:

tnt doesn’t seem any better than fox for noise level. They pay those announcers big bucks and we can’t hear them. I did notice that on espn if i don’t watch in HD, i can hear more of the announcers and less of the track noise. HD or not doesn’t seem to make a difference for me on fox or tnt. track noise is part of being at a race (along with the smells, sights and people), but it’s not good in my livingroom when I can’t hear what is being said. I thought perhaps that it was my tvs, but I guess not.

June 18, 2007 at 8:59 am
(14) Motorcrossed says:

regarding track noise: On my system I had to change the surround sound to a different setting in order to eliminate the track noise. It seems that the full surround sound also brings in way too much track sound. Try it, see if changing the settings eliminates the track sound

(15) Amy says:

Watching the race on TNT was a nightmare! Put it back on FOX! Please!!!

June 18, 2007 at 10:21 am
(16) Go Figure says:

This is funny the first half of the year when NASCAR was on Fox, a lot of you People come on here, and complain about Fox and the commenter’s because they are talking too much. Now the race is on TNT, and you come on here start complaining because it is on TNT and you cannot hear the commenter’s. It just to show no matter what it is people love to complain.

(17) TLabonte Fan says:

Rousch had 5 teams when the new rule came out. He has been “grandfathered” in and allowed to keep his 5 teams. I believe this runs out on him in 2010? I may be wrong on the year, but he does have a set time limit on having the 5 teams.

June 18, 2007 at 2:46 pm
(18) DJ 44 Fan says:

Tim –

Rousch divided his team up so that he own’s some cars and Fenway own’s some cars to get around the ownership rule.

You go 190 mph around the track, surrounded by 42 other cars running that fast, with people beating and banging against you, bumping you from behind, trying to get around you and see if you don’t scream for mama!!

I dare say that very few of these people making these comments on here have ever rode in a car running 150 mph. These guys are running 25% faster than that. Believe me, 150 is fast!!!

I was at the race in Michigan…beastly HOT!!! It was my daughter’s first race and I wish it had been a bit more exciting. How in the heck did Knaus let Jimmie run ou to fuel? If Jimmie couldn’t win I’m glad Carl won… (After driving all day in the heat he still did the flip…the man is incredible)
