Father's Day Michigan Race Preview

Thursday June 14, 2007
2007 Citizens Bank 400 at Michigan International SpeedwayThe 2007 Citizens Bank 400 at Michigan International Speedway will bring NASCAR's best to the wide 2-mile oval for 400 miles of racing. Michigan's wide racing surface invites long green-flag runs. This often makes for a thinking man's race as fuel mileage and pit strategy come into play.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. dominated the headlines this week as he announced his plans for 2008. Can Junior put the media frenzy behind him and punctuate his announcement with a win?

(1) vosa says:

Yeah it would be nice to see Jr. in victory lane, though I doubt it’ll happen this week. I’m sure his step mom has been driving him nuts now more than ever.

(2) Merle says:

So Dale is with Hendrick, have we completely forgot about the other 43 drivers that are entered in each week?To make and keep nextel a float,we need all teams big or small to win. What fun is it to watch the same teams win week in and week out.Dale made his decision lets get to racing the way it used to be.

(3) The Dog says:

You know, people have made a bog fuss over Junior since his father died. He has not lived up to high expectations you all have put upon him. Can 2008 be any different… I think not.

June 14, 2007 at 12:55 pm
(4) The Dog says:

Jr. needs to grow up. Pick it up a notch, and not be some snotty nose kid that wants to live in the glory of his father.(He was good). The facts show it. He is joining a group of whinners, Jeffy and poor Jimmy who can not get no respect. I wonder why?

(5) VacavilleGordon Fan says:

I don’t feel Jr. has been able to grow up. People kept comparing him to his father, while I am sure he wanted to recognized for himself. Hard to follow in someone elses footsteps. As for the Hendrick’s whiners. I guess to please people like you DOG they should not try to win anymore. Most of them complain sometime such as Tony Stewart, the Bush Boys, etc., but people seem to only want to talk about the Hendrick’s drivers. You think they don’t have a legitimate complaint sometimes?

(6) JR says:

The hours of the DEI Dale Earnhardt Museum are?????? Bad thinkin step mom!

June 14, 2007 at 2:46 pm
(7) 1969RS says:

I think Michigan is a very boring race. Wide smooth turns, long straightaways, not much of a challenge for the drivers. Usually becomes a fuel milage race. Almost as boring as California oval.
I’ll pick Matt.
Sorry Jr and Hendricks fans.

June 14, 2007 at 3:31 pm
(8) linda says:

I feel sorry for Jr. I think the sooner he gets out from behind the wheel and starts producing the next generation of Earnhardts the happier he will be.

Let his nephew, Jeffery, take over the driving mantle.

June 14, 2007 at 8:22 pm
(9) David says:

I sincerely hope the Michigan race will be on a level playing field. I am tired of Nascar deciding the outcome. The majority of the fans are sick of this as well.

June 14, 2007 at 9:46 pm
(10) Charlie says:

They could change the name to Chevy Cup.Couldn’t wait 10 seconds for a Dodge to win. Payoollaa.

June 14, 2007 at 10:33 pm
(11) Phil2112 says:

It was a shame, nascar stopped the race last week when they did. Newman would have passed Gordon. It should have been his victory. Guess nascar wanted their golden child to win.

(12) stewhead says:

Though I am not a Dale, Jr fan presay,my better half is mainly because he was a Dale, Sr. fan. I have been wondering if there is anyone out there who can tell me, if when Dale, Sr. got DEI started he purchased #8 number for Jr. to have because of his Dad. So, my thinking is,if this is true this would be one way Teresa could get back into the good graces of fans to trade the #5 for the #8. I wish for all the #8 fans, if Jr. really wants to keep #8 this could happen.

June 15, 2007 at 8:06 am
(13) Just Me says:

Pardon me, boys and girls, but was I the only one watching last year when the “golden boy” just plain didn’t have it going on?

And, talk about whinners: if this site didn’t exist, I pity your friends who must suffer your continual cryinig about one thing or another. Ever hear the old adage: Better to keep your mouth shut and possibly appear stupid than to open it and let them know you really are stupid!!!

I’ve watched NASCAR my entire adult life and know it’s only a matter of time before it becomes someone else’s year so just suck it up…your driver’s time will come…if he is cream, he will rise to the top as history has shown and NASCAR OFFICIALS won’t have anything to do with it.

What’s the matter with you people…how can ANYONE determine what’s going to happen with 43 drivers wanting to see the checkers?

June 15, 2007 at 9:50 am
(14) Amazing says:

just me, I guess you need to follow your own advise about keeping your mouth shut. Most of what have said been said on here countless of times.

(15) county bunkin says:

JR. IS GOOD HE JUST HAS HAD A ROUGH FEW YEARS AND I DON’T THINK HIS STEP MOM HELP ANY . SO GIVE JR. THE BREAK HE NEEDS AND HE WILL SHOW US ONCE AGAIN

June 15, 2007 at 12:57 pm
(16) 1969rs says:

justme, well said.
I too am getting tired about whatever topic we are discussing here, it always goes back to “Nascar is helping Hendricks win” comments.
I am not a HMS fan, but will be next year when Jr. goes there, and like justme, I have been watching Nascar for over 40 years. Some teams just click during a year and some do not. When Stewart won the championship, did nascar help him? When Kenseth won, was nascar paving his way? What about Dale Sr.?
Suck it up people and appreciate the talent that HMS has.

June 15, 2007 at 5:06 pm
(17) David says:

It would sure be nice to see a race on a level playing field for a change. I think most of the fans would like that as well.

June 15, 2007 at 9:51 pm
(18) Karen says:

If Teresa told Sr. what to do and when to do it, he would not have been a winner either. Its hard enough to fill the shoes of a great one, its imposible with a monkey on your back. The only way for Jr. to become his own person is to leave the monkey behind. I’m sure she will soon be going bananas and see what a mistake she has made. I’m sure Sr. is turning over in his grave, and he does not blame Jr. Maybe he will still control DEI but for a fraction of the price he would have to pay to stay. GOOD LUCK JR. Hope things work out for the best !!!

June 15, 2007 at 10:16 pm
(19) Karen says:

I think the timing of last weeks race was a rip off. Ryan Newman earned that win. They should have been able to race to the checkard flag. Then it would have been at least fair.

June 16, 2007 at 12:08 am
(20) Allen says:

I wonder how many advantageous yellow flags the Hendrick Team will receive for this one?

June 16, 2007 at 2:54 am
(21) 9 fan says:

Howdy all!!! As I said before LUCK is a racing teams best friend. HMS has a bunch of it this year, Im NOT TAKING ANY TALENT AWAY FROM THEM!!! They are a true great organization. Im just saying LUCK is in their favor also.
Teresa on the other hand may not be all evil either. DEI just may not have the $$$ to get a championship. (If they did I feel SR would have drove for his own team) So by Teresa letting JR out, it might be so he could have that shot at a crown now.
OH and Michigan is usually boring and every car manufacturer wants to win at Michigan more than any other track. Mark Martin could do it, or MAYBE Matt, or KASEY

June 16, 2007 at 8:18 am
(22) Smoke62 says:

If anybody out there thinks Hendricks is tough to beat this year, just wait till next year. I’m not a Hendricks fan, but you must admit. They know how to build a winning team. They didn’t get where they’re at by sitting on their rears.

June 16, 2007 at 8:34 am
(23) TEE says:

The Hendrick drivers themselves have admitted to being lucky. Jeff has admitted to not having the best car but getting lucky with pit strategy etc. Besides Michigan last week which you’ve all beaten to death, can someone give me other examples of Nascar favoring HMS this year?

June 16, 2007 at 11:14 am
(24) nascar fan says:

The Hendrick Team is one of the most talented in nascar and the luck of the Irish is with them. Jeff and Jimmy are in the top 10 year after year now Jr. they will be hard to beat but this week I can and will be cheering on kasey and Elliot of Evernham motor sports I think the early penalties for them and Michael Waltrip Racing has slowed them down hopefully they can both get in Victory Lane this year.

June 16, 2007 at 3:29 pm
(25) Don says:

What happened to, let them rase to the finish line on Gordon. They done Martin that way ,but its not good for Gordon. Again NASCAR chaning rules for Hendrick . Sure if you can’t beat them join them JR.

June 17, 2007 at 12:42 am
(26) 9 fan says:

I forgot about Elliot Sadler being team driver with Kasey, THANK YOU NASCARFAN! Go Elliot. I definately have an opinion with this SUPPOSED conspiracy theory between NASCAR and HMS. Notice I have tried to not give my opinion though. I do think Jack Roush said it best. “NASCAR.COM article” You all decide. I rest uncommited to this

June 17, 2007 at 2:09 pm
(27) Dave says:

I wonder how many advantageous yellow flags the Hendrick Team will receive today? This is now happening on a regular basis, so why would anyone expect anything else?

June 17, 2007 at 4:48 pm
(28) patti says:

WELL IT WILL BE OK I THINK. JR NEEDS TO DO WHAT HE THINKS IS BEST FOR HIM AND JUST MOVE ON .

June 17, 2007 at 4:51 pm
(29) PATTI says:

i wonder if jr can keep the# 8 cause if not people will need to put the coats up and get the new one if it happens lol

GO JEFF GORDON
