2007 Coca-Cola 600 Preview

Thursday May 24, 2007
2007 Coca-Cola 600 at Lowes Motor SpeedwayThe 2007 Coca-Cola 600 is the longest race on the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup schedule. This 600 mile marathon starts in the daylight and ends under the lights. The grueling distance, fast speeds and changing conditions make this one of the most challenging events on the calendar.

Kasey Kahne swept both Lowes Motor Speedway races in 2006 but Jimmie Johnson has been the dominant force at Lowes for the last four years. Who will come out on top?

I agree with Gene. Lets see someone new!

I say the best man will win, regardless if he won before or not. Hey you try doing 600 at those speeds with & then say “we need someone new”

(5) Bob says:

I say let take Jeff, jimmie, harvick, j burton, K busch ( kick K busch out of nascar all together send him back to his dads track) Matt, and don’t let them race in the 600. So some other driver may have a chance to win. Then again the rest of the teams don’t have their act together, and no one would win.

(6) Paul says:

I say on Veteran’s Day the “Army” car should win – Go Mark!

May 24, 2007 at 9:18 am

I gave up on nascar all togather this year

(8) mobie says:

i believe that if you kick out or take out the drivers like johnson ,harvick, gordon, bush ect. ect. not only would thier fans be upset but their sponsers whom i might add pay the bills would be very upset . someone said that they should limit teams and it became so , soo why not limit funds or testing so that all teams have the same amount of resources to work with them maybe we would see differnt drivers up front more often. just a thought …. mobie

(9) 1969RS says:

I agree with Paul#6, love to see Mark in victory lane.
I am carving out my spot for my butt in front of the big screen for the Indy 500 then the Coca Cola 600. The Indy 500 is a bit boring, but I still get goose bumps when I hear the “Back Home in Indiana” song. It is the hype, the fan fare, the excitement. Although Indy cars get strung out, the way the race unfolds, things can happen pretty quick.
The Coca Cola 600 is almost like two races in one, the race during daylight, and the race after the track cools after the sun sets. Interesting to see the changes crews make to the car during pit stops to adjust for the diverse track conditions.
Full day of racing. Doesn’t get any better than that! :-)

(10) jr fan from bama says:

Hey anybody up for a bet? I bet a can o’ worms and a quart of my granddaddy’s best moonshine ol’ jimmie johnson will finish in the top two–remember this is the Lowe’s Motor Speedway. But I seriously hope Jr can pull it out to get back(excuse the pun)on track of his winning ways.

May 24, 2007 at 12:07 pm
(11) Clint says:

I still love the sport, but what happened to the stock in stockcar racing? I enjoy Dale Jr’s “Back in the Day” more than the present day races. Let’s make the stockcars stock and get back roots of racing. As for the 600, Dale Jr. and Tony are both due wins. I predict a boring race until there’s 150 miles to go.

May 24, 2007 at 12:25 pm
(12) BIGBOBSR. says:

I think the car with the driver, team and owner that gets it together and has luck on their sides will win. The cars are all the same so you can count that as not meaning very much in the win.Bob

May 24, 2007 at 1:21 pm
(13) richard says:

The 600 will allow Denny Hamlin or his crew to make usual mistakes and still have time to get back to front. If the fed-ex driver and ups driver get together, will they be FED-up?

May 24, 2007 at 3:12 pm
(14) Andrew says:

I suspect Tony Stewart or Denny Hamlin will figure out a way to have a race without problems and will run away with a victory. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them #1 and #2. But I’m still hoping Jimmie will shine at his sponser’s track. GO JIMMIE.

May 24, 2007 at 4:57 pm
(16) Daisy Duke says:

No question the winner of the 600 will be the Quiet Giant Jeff Burton, go get’em Jeff.

May 24, 2007 at 6:04 pm
(17) David says:

I hope that Nascar will allow this race to be on a level playing field. I think everyone is tired of the favoritism the Hendrick team is getting.

May 24, 2007 at 6:07 pm
(18) BOO HOO says:

The REAL question here is will I watch it or not. 99.9% of the races this year had me falling a sleep before the first quarter of the laps where in. Either that I just did not watch it, of which was the most of the cases. 600 miles race? If 500 mile is boring what do you think 600 mile will do? I guess I can go watch a movie, even spiderman, it can’t be any worse than the races thats been on so far.

May 24, 2007 at 6:21 pm
(19) Clinton, Bush,Kennady,Carter,Nixon says:

Hank09- I also see that you make your favorite driver proud of you along with your mommy, then again that kid kahne is in the same league as Kyle Busch both are spoiled rich little kids wanna a bees.

May 24, 2007 at 7:31 pm
(20) Eric says:

to 15 jimmy-crak-corn. Put this on your address bar http://www.nascar.com/races/cup/2007/data/schedule.html

That should come up with the race name, Town, Starting time, and television network airing the race.

May 24, 2007 at 9:20 pm
(21) charlie2 says:

The first driver to cross the finish line will win, unless Gordon laps the less fortune ones. Get your crying towels out. Nascar will give another race to Hendrick. boohoo

May 24, 2007 at 10:35 pm
(22) jooboo says:

Let them race, nascar making up too many rules (the car of tomorrow ??). They should go to 6-cyl engines and let the best driver(team) show what they can do.

May 25, 2007 at 4:18 am
(23) 9 fan says:

The original question was WHO WILL WIN? Asking for guesses here. We all know the facts — The best team/car/driver will win. A big wish SOME ONE DIFFERENT *like Denny Hamlin* who has come so close but made goofs to lose it* The easy guess HENDRICK RACING wins another race in the HENDRICK RACING LEAGUE.
The real outcome will be OK regardless of who wins. Ive said before Gordon is of my least favs, but I would like to see him break some more records and retire TRULY at the top of the field. If anyone deserves the TOP SPOT it really is GORDON. I hope for KASEY, but I guess it will be Jimmie.

May 25, 2007 at 6:55 am
(24) Tyler20 says:

Some of you people make me sick….Do you really think Nascar Wants the same drivers like Gordon and Johnson to win all the time?..These drivers are just Good and there owner has given them the best Cars and crews money can buy..The other drivers just have to work harder and stop crying. When a team gets this good it only makes the other teams better, they have to work twice as hard and when they do win it’s really special.Im a Stewart Fan and I would love to see him win but there car has not been perfect this year..they are working hard just like everyone else. The only driver/team I do not care for is the 17…They Cheat….What makes a great race is 43 cars with desire to WIN..I think there are about 20 with that desire..the rest just hope to finish and pick up there check…they have no need to try and win. It’s the guys like Stewart,Harvick,Gordon,Johnson, the Bush brothers, and More that make the race fun because they expect to Win..when they don’t,yes they get upset, because they have the desire to win and nothing but winning will be acceptible.

May 25, 2007 at 8:55 am
(25) 1969RS says:

Tyler20….the 17 team cheats? Maybe they recently got busted for a infraction, but look back in your memory banks a little. Wasn’t that long ago that your driver Stewart had an entire car empounded.
People that live in glass houses should not throw stones.
Everyone bends the rules. That is what they are paid for. Some get caught, some do not. It has been said by many drivers and crew chiefs that if you built a car EXACTLY by the book, you would be running in last place.

May 25, 2007 at 9:17 am
(26) Clinton, Bush,Kennady,Carter,Nixon says:

Michelle, Yes he is rich kid, and I’m talking about the money that he won in nascar. he came from a rich family here in washington state. He drove Sprint cars, as in R petty in his day, he won a lot because his mommy and daddy made sure he had the BEST of everything. Now if he comes back here to drive sprints and it’s not in his car he can’t even make it in the races.

May 25, 2007 at 9:35 am
(27) Clinton, Bush,Kennady,Carter,Nixon says:

michelle, My last comment should have read “I’m NOT talking about the money he had won in nascar”. sorry

May 25, 2007 at 12:08 pm
(28) JIM BYNUM says:

KYLE SHOULD BE FIRED FROM HENDRICK AND REPLACED WITH JUNEBUG, JEFF IS THE MAN TO BEAT AND WITH JUNEBUG IN THE SAME CORRAL IT MAKES FOR A GREAT RIVALRY. JLB

May 25, 2007 at 3:28 pm
(29) john says:

That is a good one #17 cheats, If he is cheating, and only won 1 race, I sure would fire his crew.

May 25, 2007 at 5:00 pm
(30) michelle says:

But it should not matter, if he is a rich kid or what mommy or daddy did for him he still works hard for what he wants and cares about he loves to race and thats all that should matter!!!! just look at what jr got from his daddy ! he would probly not have made it if it was not for his dad. so dose that mean jr is a rich wannabe?

May 25, 2007 at 5:22 pm
(31) Clinton, Bush,Kennady,Carter,Nixon says:

No one one was talking about jr were they? So why bring him up? That one question no one ever know. jr is a better driver anyway.

May 25, 2007 at 5:23 pm
(32) 1969RS says:

Great point John.
Brings up another point, everyone claims Nascar fixes the races so Hendrick cars win…don’t you think that would drive viewers away? Nascar is all about the ratings and the $$. If they were fixing the races, you would see a different winner each week.

May 25, 2007 at 5:27 pm
(33) john says:

1969rs, You are correct there it is all about $$$$ and ratings. Then again their ratings has been slipping. Do you think hendrick paying nascar $$$ so they can win??? lol

May 25, 2007 at 5:46 pm
(34) Clinton, Bush,Kennady,Carter,Nixon says:

Ok Michelle, I will take the bait, I will stray a bit off the subject. The difference between jr and Kahn. Yes, both parents bought them their racecars. Kasey Kahn had the very best of everything in sprints, which is why he won here in Washington State. Jr parents did not buy him the very best, listen to the interviews of other drivers, TV announcers talking about it. Sr wanted Jr to learn the hard way to win races.

May 25, 2007 at 6:04 pm
(35) john says:

1969rs I just heard that nascar going to let hendrick teams to have a bigger fuel tank, and thicker tires for the 600 race, dont tell anyone.

May 25, 2007 at 7:04 pm
(36) nascar fan says:

I hope Elliott Sadler wins this week.

May 25, 2007 at 8:36 pm
(37) Mike 01 Fan says:

I for 1 would love to see Mark Martin win, the 600, he did finish 3rd last week , so keep ur eye on him .

May 25, 2007 at 9:49 pm
(38) Scott says:

I am a big Jeff Gordon fan but if he can not win the 600 I would like to see Tony Raines win I would like to see him win one this year it really doesnt matter where.

May 25, 2007 at 10:29 pm
(39) Reggie says:

I would sure like to see my boy “HAPPY
HARVICK” do it again.
I think that we should have no more teams! one car to each owner, give everybody a fair chance also have inverted starts,YEA YEA

May 26, 2007 at 1:00 am
(40) David says:

Believe me folks, Nascar will find a way for their poster boy (Gordon) or his twin (Johnson) to win.

May 26, 2007 at 8:51 am
(41) Merle says:

I was a nascar fan- big money has taken over- Teams with the money wins- one car teams don’t have a chance.

May 26, 2007 at 11:00 am
(42) dixiedog says:

I’ll be at the track Sunday, hoping for a DJ victory, but I know it will be mechanical as well as driver skills that go to victory lane at the end.

May 26, 2007 at 11:20 am
(43) OldMSPrCJ1 says:

You are right. Jr. Had to work on his own. Daddy might have told him a few tricks to the trafe. I would love to see him win a race this season.
