2007 NEXTEL All-Star Challenge Preview

Thursday May 17, 2007
2007 NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge at Lowes Motor SpeedwayThis Saturday night the NASCAR stars visit Lowes Motor Speedway for the NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge. There are no points on the line but the huge $1,000,000 payday for the winner provides plenty of incentive for drivers to push for the win.

The All-Star Challenge was designed from the ground up to be exciting for the fans. The segments are short, the restarts are all side-by-side and, of course, the million dollar payday guarantees that the drivers are giving their all. Who will find the magic combination this year to claim the big win?

He does not need the money but I predict J.J. wins. I hope Schrader gets the nod for fan vote in. Kenny Wallace would be nice if not Schrader.

I wish Nascar would give Mike Waltrip a break or he would build a fast enough car to get in the race before the season is over. GOOD LUCK MICKIE*******

Mike has all of the same breaks as any other nascar driver (unless they have the #24, 48 on the car then they get more than their fair share). What Mike needs is to get his teams stuff together as well rest of all of the Toyota teams. So far, with the Toyota’s racing it really want me want to go out and buy a Toyota. Yes, JJ or Gordon will win- it’s a given, How many phantom yellows will there be if one of those two not out in front?

(8) Gerry says:

Am I seeing double on here?

May 17, 2007 at 11:55 am
(9) 1969RS says:

I think the “seeing double” comes from slow processing when you hit the “say it” button and people are hitting it twice.
I think there will be a Henrick car out front coming out of the fourth turn coming for the checkered, and a orange car will spin them out for the win.
Hmmmm….
This race has a tendancy to sort the men from the boys and anything goes in this race. I will be surprised if the 24 and 48 make it to the last lap. Nothing against Jimmy and Jeff as they are both extremely talented, but the fans are not the only ones getting sick of seeing Hendricks in victory lane.
The ASC is a night of fancy paint jobs, sparks flying, tempers flairing, and fans screaming.

May 17, 2007 at 1:42 pm
(10) 1969RS says:

Marilyn; Hope you did not misunderstand my comments as “whining” because it was not. Maybe you missed the spot where I said “Nothing against Jimmy and Jeff as they are both extremely talented”. I meant that. I respect these drivers unlike many on this board. Do not lump me into that group.
I was mearly commenting that they will most likely be up front and the history of this race has prooven that very aggressive things happen at the end.

May 17, 2007 at 1:45 pm
(11) JJMan says:

Mikie or as P.H.#2 says, Mickie, is at best one of the tail enders that just shows up for a pay day. His only wins came at Daytona and one was at the expense of D.E.’s accident. If he really wants to win, he needs to enter BusCH and Craftsman series. He doesn’t hold a candle to the top Nextel drivers.

May 17, 2007 at 1:55 pm
(12) Charles Cotten says:

Look for the 24 to be in victory lane saturday night. This is his chance to show the world that he is a force to be reconed with.Hendrick cars are on top of their game right now. It will be hard to put them down on saturday night. Good Luck everyone else, cause you will need it.

May 17, 2007 at 1:58 pm
(13) Marilyn says:

1969rs, I was not saying that you were whining. Don,t take it personally. Some people seem to think that Nascar is throwing cautions so that the Hendrick teams can win, that is bs. They are just there to capitalize on the situations. You have to statigize and that is what they do.

May 17, 2007 at 2:55 pm
(14) Nancy says:

I am getting tired of the Hendricks cars being the only ones that can seem to get tuned in by the end of the race. I guess they have the talent, but it would be nice to see some of the other racers get a win once in awhile.

May 17, 2007 at 2:59 pm
(15) Dan says:

I want to know where are the inspectors? Tear a few of Hendrick’s engines down to find out what they are putting in them! No car can keep running with water temperature 360* for that many laps without something in them just water? COME ON how many cars do you see on the side of the with they’re hoods up steaming??Look at all the other cars that blew up at 270*-280*!Something is getting kind of stinky here and it isn’t antifreeze

May 17, 2007 at 3:11 pm
(16) 48/24 says:

Go Jimmie, Go Jimmie, Go Jimmie….Go!
Go Jimmie, Go Jimmie, Go Jimmie….Go!
Jeff Toooooooo! Good luck to all the drivers. Should be a fun race. I hope Kenny Schrader will be voted in by the fans. Seems like a nice guy. Can’t wait for the race. Again, good luck to all the drivers.

they’re overdue don’tcha think?

May 17, 2007 at 3:53 pm
(18) Dale Jr. Fan says:

I think Dale Jr. is overdue to win a race. Bummer that his crew chief, or whoever, had the wrong brackets on the rear of the car last week. DEI said that these brackets were left over from testing. Daa, get your crap together, and the weekend after Dale announces that he is leaving DEI!!

May 17, 2007 at 4:35 pm
(19) jfowl says:

Car of tomorrow cars will create more competition. Lol. Sad to say, I’m pretty sure that a HMS vehicle will more than likely win it. I sure hope Kahne wins it. It would be a nice break from the poor season he has had this far.

mike gets the same deal as everyone else. just needs to go faster. if it wasnt for champion provisionals jarret would have missed most of the races too. its going to be a matt kenseth night and yea go schrader!!

race fans tired of seeing jj and pretty boy getting all them breaks (phantom yellows). It would be good for NASCAR to see them both whine when they get spun out. But by whom? Lets vote Robby Gordon in, he’s can take care of the 24/48….

everyone may be tired of seeing the hendricks teams win, but they work just as hard or harder as any other drivers out there. when u r as talented as the 24 & the 48,what else can u expect GO HENDRICKS 24 & 48!!!!!!!!

May 17, 2007 at 8:05 pm
(25) Daisy Duke says:

Let’s get real common sence tells you that The Hendrick’s teams are doing something everyone else is not.Is it cheating who knows the so call Nascar smarties aren’t clever enough to figure it out, give the Henderick people some credit they are just smarter than everyone else, as Bubba used to say to be the best you have to beat the best, get over it or get used to it!!!!!!!

I am for the Hendricks cause they do the best. I want Jeff to win if not then Jimmy. No one should ruin the race for all there. If someone would cause a spin then they need to be blacked and off the track. Race should be clean and I hope to see it that way.

(32) smoke62 says:

I don’t like the 48 & 24, but you have to hand it to them. They’ve figured out something that gives them the edge, as small as it may be. You have to remember that many qualifying losers and winners are only separated by a few thousandths of a second. All I can say is “Good Luck Tony!”

(37) 1969RS says:

I know there were a bunch of people on here voting for Kenny Scraeder. I heard just the tail end of news last night regarding the 21 car and Jon Wood running it in the ASC and Bill Elliot running it in the 600 and FatBack on the pit box. Then a little something about Kenny doing what was right for the team.
Can anyone shed some factual information on this situation? Is Kenny stepping out of the 21? I knew he was going to share some of the driving duties with Jon Wood this year, but it sounded like there may have been a change. I know he smacked the wall pretty hard last weekend.

May 18, 2007 at 10:35 am
(38) Amazing says:

1969rd nascar web site said the changes due to schrader failed to quaify the last 2-3 races and team failed below the top 35 points their #39 now

May 18, 2007 at 10:53 am
(39) Steve McCormick says:

Bill Elliott would be eligible to use the 6 past Champions provisionals. With Jarrett having already used up his 6 provisionals Elliott will be a guaranteed starter for at least six races.

This is unfortunate for Schrader but he’s stepping aside gracefully for the good of the team.

May 18, 2007 at 11:02 am
(40) Cheryl Huerta says:

As a fan of NASCAR period sometimes I wonder how the sport has survived this far with so many folks seeing conspiracies and dishonesty everywhere whenever their favorite driver isn’t as competitive as others are or when someone dominates like Hendrick is doing lately. I am a loyal Dale Jarrett fan. I became a full fleged dyed-in-the-wool NASCAR fan in 1998 and when my driver took the championship in 1999 that was it…I was hooked forever. I can’t honestly say that I like every driver equally but I sure don’t have to hate someone in order to like and support my driver. I remain loyal to DJ because I understand just how truly competitive the sport is and just how much it must take to even get into the cup level let alone be a factor to win every week or even often. I know when the right people are put together his team will shine…just as with Mikey and the other teams that are struggling today. It’s only a matter of time. With 43 cars on the track each race you can only have one winner and if you do the math those aren’t the best odds for anyone especially someone who is just a little bit off. Then when you factor in all the little things that could happen or go wrong then the odds become astronomical to win or even to do well.
I think sometimes people either forget or don’t realize just how truly competitive cup racing in NASCAR is. When someone misses qualifying by six one hundreths of a second that is extremely competitive and that should show people that to win and win consistently you only have to be a tiny bit better than the competition. Hendricks has it goin’ on lately but their time will end when others catch up. Not too long ago Roush dominated and Yates and Gibbs too have all had their day and will have it again. All this talk of cheating and NASCAR turning their heads to it is ridiculous in my opinion. NASCAR from my perspective is a completely open book and with pre-race inspections open to the public now at most tracks and available to the media it would be too hard for NASCAR to turn the other way and not get caught doing it. It simply is not logical for them to favor one team or driver over another and I don’t believe that they do. I have very rarely seen NASCAR as a governing body keep the reasons why they do things to themselves…they seem to be very willing to share their reasons for doing everything that they do.
As for the All Star race this weekend…of course I’d love for my driver to win and I’d love to see Kenny Schrader, Kenny Wallace or Michael Waltrip get to race too but in the end no matter who wins I still love stock car racing with all my heart and will be a fan to my dying day.

May 18, 2007 at 11:36 am
(41) 1969RS says:

Kenny Schraeder’s name is still on the voting board. Wonder what they will do if he is voted in?
Kenny is really a class act. I think he wanting to bow out of cup gracefully. Sure would be nice to see him in victory lane one more time. He is a true ambassador for the sport.
I think I will go and vote for him again.

After reading that long comment, it really does sounds like this person eats, sleeps the wwf of car races. If I were a betting person, I would say her house painted in the NASCAR colors, bed sheets, and all. It also sounds like this person needs to get in the reality of life, there is far more than NASCAR. Some people like to be in their small world of make believe, to some its football, baseball, etc, and this person its wwf of NASCAR. I like NASCAR myself have been a fan dates back far longer than 1998 but to live it breath it, I got better things to do. I agree with the comment, everything she had said it has been said before from others that places comments on here. Funny how people read something then in turn re-write it, and they think it is original and they are authority on the subject. Yes, in part, things that she said are true, then again, it is an opinion but hardly are her own words, and they are words of many. I will have to admit I had never read this comment on here before, it is an original on here, To my dying day are you in your teens still?

I am a Yates fan, have been since Davey Allison. It is a shame to see that the teams are going to be sold. I really believed that the #38 car was a car to be reckoned with tonight. Before the race started I said to my son who loves the #38 car,Watch Montoya wreck us!. It sure did not Take long for it to happen. It has been a long time since I have been that pissed off. Montoya has come into this sport and been praised since day one. What has he done that is so great? The only thing he has managed to do each week is tear up a bunch of race cars, including his own. He needs to head back to Columbia and race Donkeys with Juan Valdez, the coffee guy. Tired of the Montoya hype!!!!

This was the most BORING all star event I have ever witnessed!! NEXTEL has ruined another tradition. Wish it was still THE WINSTON!

AJ some people wont be satisfied no matter what. Ever gave a thought why it’s not called the winston? Ever stop and think if you can, they do change the format every few years anyway? Amazing how things are when you stop and think a little.

Yates Fan, learn how to spell “Colombia” before you type. After reading your stuff, I smell jealousy or racist, look in the mirror & decide for yourself. As a race fan that is embarrassing. Go JGR!!!!!!

I agree with A.J it was the worst No star non-race ever!I’ve got Speed channel it has been around for ten years now I find it hard to believe that so many people act like it just started up.Yeah Fox bought it few years ago and pretty much ruined it too. I guess what I really hated the most was the so called open it was the caution laps not the qualifier for main event!!! My opinion and everyone has one just like a mouth!!! or the other end!

Left_turn as a race fan I am embarrassed with your stupid comment. Big deal this person has gotten the spelling of the river and the country mixed up, I know I will not be able sleep tonight because of that mistake. What did that person say wrong in your eyes? That Montoya wrecks somebody every week. Or they have donkey races in Colombia? They have horse, dog, and any other type of races here. Or is it you are a big fan of this over used, missed used political correctness that they have here? Maybe you need to look in the mirror your self before trying to down someone on his or her comments. Worry about your comments instead of worrying about someone spelling. Although, they did spell it right, it was just the spelling of the river instead or did you know that? Um

Hi

I can’t be bothered with anything these days, but shrug. I just don’t have anything to say recently.
