NASCAR Takes On Talladega

Thursday April 26, 2007
2007 Aarons 499 at Talladega SuperspeedwayThis weekend NASCAR returns to the old-style car and straps on the restrictor plates for a visit to Talladega Superspeedway. Chevrolet drivers have dominated here since Dale Earnhardt Sr. swept both races in 1999. Since then the Chevy teams have only been beat one time out of 16 events.

Will Jeff Gordon back up his big win last week with another? Can Tony Stewart finally find success at Talladega? Maybe this is the week that Ford, Dodge or Toyota will make up some ground in the manufacturer's championship? We will all find out on Sunday afternoon.

Well I know this may sound negative, But let me sum this up again when the comments do start to come on here. This driver did that or done that. He should have won, he should have lost. He/they cheated, they all cheat. I’m a race fan, I don’t watch much. The ones that think nascar can’t do no wrong, and the ones that nascar ruining the sport. The ones they think they are the authority of the sport, did I miss anything? Always the same on here.

(3) Bob says:

My o My how people have short memories. This year the Hendricks/Chevy is doing good, last year or year before it was another team/make, and a year before that another team/make. What the rest of the teams have to do is become organized like the Hendricks. Next year it could be the Fords again, even maybe the Dodges who knows. The Roush teams spread their teams a little too thin Couple of years ago it was all Roush/Fords. Wait things will change or maybe we should say it would be business as usual with nascar.

(4) GordanFan says:

I agree with Bob. Last year Jeff was a has been according to many, and this year he is the Golden Boy again, which makes me very happy. A true fan sticks with them win or lose. Jeff will still be winning when some of these hot shots are gone. Can’t make everyone happy but I do hope that Earnhardt fans will do as he asks and keep their beer cans in their hands, not on the track.

(5) MURPHY says:

If what Tony Stewart said in todays paper is true, and I think it is, about NASCAR using the yellow flag to control the races, then NASCAR will decide who wins the race. Peace to all

(6) jason says:

I hope to see the Earnhardt name back in victory lane this weekend. I also agree that the beer cans should stay in your hands, I was there the last time Talladega was pelted with beer cans, a lot of people were hit & hurt with full beer cans that didn’t make the track. What a waste of beer too.

(7) j1srus says:

Racing is about competition. Having an edge. Nobody will sit and watch a blow out week after week after week. In no one can compete with Hendricks, then all 43 cars will be a Hendricks. Whoever thought Toyota would overtake GM? Losers need to wake up and winners better not fall asleep. Competition is what the show is all about. As for Phoenix, talk about some awesome passing…Way to go Jimmie, Tony, Denny….

(8) j1srus says:

Agreeing with Jason – I too was at Talladega last fall and I want to enjoy the afterrace…didn’t happen because of all the beer cans raining down on us!

(9) 1969RS says:

I think we will see #8 in vicory lane this weekend. It has been too long of a dry spell for Jr. and he is due.
Ya know, the conspirancy theory about Nascar controlling the races and determining the winner, wouldn’t you think they would have put Jr. in victory lane recently if that was so? As many Jr. fans as there is, it would be good for the fans.
It will be a good race this weekend, there will be whiners at the race and on this forum on Monday. Someone will loose thier cool, there will be a big wreck, and I predict Montoya will start it with a three wide dive to the inside on a restart.

(10) Becky says:

Yes, I am sick & tired of Henricks always winning races. I bet ya that if Toyota or Dodge were winning all the races, that NASCAR would be doing a little bit more investigating of those vehicles. What do you think? Last weekend was cool for Jeff Gordon to finally win this year and drive around the track with the #3 flag, but like I said before, I am sick & tired of Hendricks cars always winning. Go Dale Jr.

Becky try to read #3 comment from Bob.

(12) Whoopie do says:

The Conspiracies factors are showing up again. Too bad people just can’t accept maybe some teams are better at times from other times. As Bob have said maybe the Hendericks got their act together better than the other teams.

(13) st says:

Becky! Becky! Becky! Let’s be a good Nascar Fan and wish the best for all the drivers! Dale Jr. is one of the best drivers around and I think he wants to win too. But you don’t hear anyone wanting him to crash because he is not on the Hendricks team.

April 26, 2007 at 6:11 pm
(14) Ryan T. says:

I like all the NASCAR drivers, but I prefer the ones that drive Chevrolets; Hendrick Motorsports, Joe Gibbs, and DEI. My favorite will always be DEI, as long as Jr. is there. In a nutshell, if the #8 signs with Toyota, Ford, or Dodge, you’ll never see me driving one, but I’ll still be drinking Budweiser on race day.

(15) Motocrossed says:

I am a Ford fan but, Chevy did their homework, they are better prepared and, there are twice as many then Ford’s. Do the math. There are entirely two many yellow flags thrown for “debris on the track”. Finally NASCAR should NOT mandate changes to make the other brands more competitive…..Anita, is this agreeable with you, less of a negative tone.

April 26, 2007 at 7:29 pm
(16) Nisie says:

CHEVYS” will aways be better than fords, any time on the race track!!!!!Go CHEVYS’ GO !!!! Hendricks teams do have it together this year and I am proud of them!!!! But, the throwing of beer cans is really childish and it shows just how inconsiderate some so called fans really r!!!!! Come on show a little sportsmanship!!!!!!! whether ur favorite team & driver wins or not….

i have been a nascar fan since 86 or 87 and now i’m thinking about going to play bowling intead of watching the race it’s boring i agree 100% with JR and steward on nascar controlling the race by calling yellow anytime they want for the fan ouit west they don’t know the old nascar so sorry for them because nascar of today is boring very boring so nascar must change something before they lose the fans for the east i don’t think nascar can survive without the fan for the east NC GA SC VA Fl. Al etc… first thing the car must go faster much faster it’s a race not grocery shopping ok

(18) Bubba says:

I suppose I will have to say this every week until all of you self professed Nascar armchair quarterbacks get the message, I don’t care what brand of automobile it is, ” TO BE THE BEST YOU HAVE TO BEAT THE BEST” Period!!!!!!!!!

April 27, 2007 at 9:47 am
(19) JIM STUART says:

I agree Bubba you said it all.
But Nascar needs to Give up the politics.
and quit trying to be everything to all their money buddies. And let the racing be Racing. Its A fine example of what happens to a good thing when Money people get into control,

(22) jo says:

Tony didn’t have to tell us about nascar, we all got their number. They control where they race, who races, by that i mean if they don’t like ya they will find something wrong with the car or you…..what ya said ect…. hey its plain and not like the old days…. The small dirt and asphalt are better to watch….. been a fan a long time….nascar is wrecking the sport… i mean wreaking….

April 27, 2007 at 10:02 pm
(23) Eric says:

Go back and check the interviews from Daytona, Mark Martin all but said it. My cars this year handle better than my cars last year. This year Chevy’s last year Ford’s. No matter what you drive, He likes the handle of the Chevy for nascar better than the Ford. Probably because there are so many teams using them, there are more trials and errors, they have figured the body/chassis combinations out and some people talk, some people listen.Someone over hears someone that is doing better and incorperate an idea in to their car. These people have engineering degrees. and 35 engineers will figure out something faster than 18. The good money is on Chevy every race.

(24) "Minnie" says:

Nascar and fans have short memories. Many don’t like to admit it but Nascar’s No. 1 driver of all times –

Dale Earhardt was the first one to recognize the potential and driving talents of Jeff Gordon. He knew driving and he knew a driver when he saw one. He told Jeff, “If they are cheering you OR booing you-you’ve got the fans attention. So thanks to all of you who boo Jeff-He’s getting your attention. You need to take a page out of Dale’s book and even tho’ you may not like Jeff, give a talented driver the respect he has earned. Check out Nascar history and see what he has done for Nascar. Noone can erase Dale’s record nor can anyone erase Jeff’s record. Give the guy a break-Dale did. Junior is not his daddy and he will make his own history and make his own record. Give him a break and let off the pressure and you might be surprised what a difference it will make in his performance on the track. You may not agree with me but before you get mad and throw a beer can-THINK ABOUT IT.
give a talented driver some respect

(25) Carol says:

It is sad that some race fans must spoil the sport by being upsportman like. I am a Jeff Gordon fan to a fault..Have his coffee cups, name plate on car, etc. But he deserves respect, after all he does race good, and gives respect to other drivers. Hendricks motor sports just have their act together, that is all….So stope being jealous and cheer your driver on….No matter it he is losing…

(26) jimmy says:

the race just ended & gordon won, and without surprise anti-gordon fans threw drinks at the car. i fail to see the point. do ya realy think he wishes he didn’t win because some dingbats throw stuff? not because i’m a gordon fan but instead of buying drinks to throw, why not take that money and donate it to a good cause? there are plenty of them supported by the nascar comunity!! (and yes,i would have the same opinion if another driver won today) P.S. way 2 go 24!!!!!!

(27) Jerry D. says:

I have been to Talledega at least 30 times and Ive made my last trip Im sick of the traffic the ticket prices and worst of all the hilligans that attend those races and throw full beer cans I guess no one will do anything to curb this behavior until a someone is seriouslly injured or killed They did the same thing in Cleveland Ohio one time now they drink draft beer from paper cups someone needs to wake up!!!!
