Saturday Night Under The Lights In Phoenix

Thursday April 19, 2007
2007 Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International RacewayThis Saturday night the NEXTEL Cup stars go under the lights in Phoenix for the first night race of the season. This race also features the return of the Car of Tomorrow to competition.

Last year Kevin Harvick swept both Phoenix races but he hasn't been able to back up his 2007 Daytona 500 win with more consistent top finishes. Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson won the first two Car of Tomorrow races. Have one of those teams found something special in the CoT setup that gives them the edge this week? Who will come out on top this weekend in Phoenix?

Seems like Hendrix is on top of the COT. After a couple of races, maybe someone else may have a handle on this. Sure would like to see Casey Khane in victory lane.

(2) Anita says:

April 19, 2007 at 4:47 pm
(7) Lou Lavison says:

I noticed that the Long Beach Grand Prix only had two American drivers in it. Hmmmmmm!

It’s no wonder their attendance has fallen off.

Who wants to cheer for Juan Manuel Fandango or Hans Von Groober?

I hope that NASCAR doesn’t go that way.

(8) Becky Taylor says:

I say that it is about time that Dale Jr. wins a race. I am sick and tired of JJ winning all the time. JJ needs to crash out this weekend like he did last weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(9) motocrossed says:

“GO JIMMIE GO”, “He’s on a roll this year”, “Jimmy all the way baby!!!”. What the heck is going on, what kind of response to the COT racing under the lights and on a mile track (both firsts fof the COT)is this??? Where is the discussion on splitters, the spoilers, down force, aero push. This sounds lie the crap in my teenage daughters magazines. Just to counter you fools I want the ugliest, fattest, nastiest driver (whomever that may now be) to win. And I want them to win by banging your nice little California boys off the track. He may not be the fattest, nor the ugliest but, I will go with the nastiest on the track (currently) Tony Stewart. YEAH BABEEEE!!!

April 19, 2007 at 7:32 pm
(10) st says:

Becky Taylor, SHAME ON YOU1 HOW CAN YOU WISH SOMETHING THAT TERRIBLE ON SOMEONE. YOU’RE NOT A VERY NICE NASCAR PERSON. BAD!!!!!!

Its time for Tony to win hes lead the most out of all these boys GO TONY #20

April 19, 2007 at 8:19 pm
(12) Shannon says:

Jimmie’s the “Man.” His fan base is growing & growing. Got it all wrong motorcrossed. It’s not about his looks, at all, but who he appears to be & his talent. California has nothing to do with it. Personally, I don’t like the state at all. By the way, he hasn’t lived there for yrs. I hope the COT & JJ do great in Phoenix! GO JJ GO!!!!!!!!!!!!

April 19, 2007 at 8:51 pm
(13) motocrossed says:

His fan bas is growing because he won a championship. The fan base of the front runners always grows until they start losing. Remember all the SF 49er fans when Joe Montana was the QB, were are the 49er fans now? Everybody was wearing a Red Sox cap two years ago, they all loved the sox. Tony Stewart, Matt Kennseth, Ryan Newman, Jeff Burton – these are drivers, Jimmy boy is an image all you “Shannon” come latelies love him…..Go Jimmie, woooooo,
Like I said…give me he biggest baddest driver, gimme the tough guy, un-shaven, rough and tumble (similar to me). A man’s man, a drivers driver, hell not these clean cut advertising friendly kids.

April 19, 2007 at 10:26 pm
(14) Leanna says:

Go Jeff of couse he will win the race. Hendrics are sure doing so good this year. It would be great to see all of them 1,2,3,4 this year.

April 19, 2007 at 10:38 pm

April 19, 2007 at 11:00 pm
(20) Anita says:

Hey there guys. I think that it is refreashing to get on here and not see a bunch of people arguing about stuff. I think that it is great thay people are just kinda ignoring the rude comments and going about the business of talking about who they want to win. I am praying for a win for jimmie he does have a good chance. The hendricks teams are hot with the cot so I think it will be one of them that win. Good thinf that I like all the hendricks drivers. But my night will be made if jimmie catches that checkered flag. God Bless.

(21) smoke62 says:

A couple of weeks ago, Gordo shoulda put Jimmy into the wall and went on to claim the victory. Jimmy would have!!!!

April 20, 2007 at 12:42 am
(22) thekingcobra63 says:

even though they’re racing the soap boxes again, I’ll still be routing for Joe Nemechek this week. I know you guys will laugh, but I stay with my guys win or lose. Good luck to all in having a safe race, since we don’t know what these rolling boxes might do at a higher speed!

April 20, 2007 at 2:13 am
(23) Mark says:

I’ll tell you I like the racing not just a driver who’s hot at the time. Nothing was better than going to NC and catching some of the historic that still race on sat. night. Southern National,Hickory Speedway. At Hickory you can look at the wall of champions. Plus there are shops, museams you name it at every freeway exit.

April 20, 2007 at 12:50 pm
(26) Dan S. says:

I’m not impressed with the COT. It looks like a shoebox on wheels. A Volvo would fit right in with the body style of the “new” design.

April 20, 2007 at 3:52 pm
(27) Vicky Osomething says:

Go Jeff!

April 20, 2007 at 5:19 pm

Jeff Gordon is a class act no doubt about it…in fact could be the best of everyone else out there…I’m a NASCAR true & blue, and everyone has theie favorite driver, but I ask you WHO has been better than Jeff?????????????????

April 21, 2007 at 12:42 pm
(36) Dan says:

dave p, If you haven’t heard attendance for baseball is up. Nextel attendance down. Do you wonder why ? (COT) and nascars rules. Racing isn’t what it used to be.

April 21, 2007 at 2:09 pm
(37) Eric says:

Somebody tell Dan Nascar gets a profit off these posts or some other stupid thing that will make him leave. He proclaims he has no intrest in watching or attend the sport because the racing is not the same anymore. That is his right, but leave the rest of us race fan alone then. If your not interested what are you doing on ABOUT NASCAR, Leave we don’t mind(or care)

April 21, 2007 at 3:54 pm

(41) Ryan T. says:

Wow, nice call Laura24. Who’s going to be in victory lane at Talladega?

April 28, 2007 at 2:32 am
(42) Dave V. says:

I don’t know why nobody knows why Smoke didn’t want to talk to anyone after Nascar gave the race to Gordon. If it had of been anyone else in the 1st pit box they would have been a lap down and then ended up at the end of the lead lappers not up front. I was so ticked I couldn’t express myself at the end of the race either.
