Jeff Burton Becomes First Texas Repeater

Sunday April 15, 2007
Today's SAMSUNG 500 continued NASCAR's streak of great 2007 finishes. The final 15 laps were nailbiting as Matt Kenseth worked the high groove to try to hold off Jeff Burton on the bottom. This race wasn't decided until the very last lap as Jeff Burton became the first repeat winner in Texas history.

Texas maintained its reputation for unpredictability as a number of top contenders had trouble today. Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon were all running at or near the front when they ran into troubles that knocked them from contention. You can't relax for an instant in Texas or this place will bite you.

I think jeff burton winning was great for rcr but k busch is a jack ass for not slowing down when he saw smoke and running into the back of dale jr and taking the best on the track out he should be fined and learn how to drive

i think jeff burton winning was great for rcr and what k busch did to dale jr is sickning he needs to learn how to drive jr was running great and when tony stewart spun and left smoke k busch should of slowed down and not run into the back of the best car on the track you just don’t do that

Jeff Burton most certainly has come of age these last few years ,he’s kind of like the next mark martin if you ask me ! stays cool and drives with control and respect .. Good job Jeff.

Big Props to Burton, he is a class act. Glad to see real cars getting to race, and it was so much better than the past few weeks for sure. Jr, even though I am not one of his big fans, got hosed by Busch, and he showed his class by driving the guys car at the end. Last thought, I don’t blame Montoya for everyone kissing his butt, he has shown he is a good driver and he doesn’t have control over the attention he’s getting unless he just wants to run a few laps and bail out every race finishing last just so the media stops talking about him. I say cut the guy some slack, he hasn’t shown to be one of the asses on the track. Basically, he’s no Kyle Busch.

(7) Tim says:

How many times do we have to say that Kyle is an inexperienced idiot, or that Jr is a class act. Burton (one of my favs) certainly did earn this win. I congradulate him immensely. But come on people HONOSTLY the gentlemens award should go to Matt Kennseth this week. He had alot of opportunities to block out and even TAKE out Jeff during those last few laps, but instead he stayed up high and gave Jeff room to race. I give Matt a great big ATTABOY this week.

Tim if you didn’t say it we would not hear yours. Matt? he did what he should have done he didn’t go above and beyound there. Take him out? The way his car was with jeffs, if he did try to take him out 3 to 1 he would have taken himself out along with Jeff. Only people did that was montoya, busch.

(9) Anita says:

Hey Jeff Burton did a good job. He is not my favorite. Jimmy’s car got crunched. So If he couldnt be the one to win Burton works for me. I think he is nice guy. Good Job Jeff.

(10) Rae says:

I was at the race. Matt is my favorite driver, so needless to say I am one happy camper this week! Great race on Saturday(though colder than all get out!) and I am happy with the NEXTEL race as well. The win would have been nicer, but it was an awsome race indeed! I think I regained my voice sometime this morning… Busch?!? let the baby go cry into his big pillow, Jr. had the last laugh indeed!

(11) MURPHY says:

Come on guys and gals, just enjoy the race because it was a pretty good one. You don’t have to make a rag out of the drivers you don’t like, just watch the race. For a change nascar didn’t have to bring out the yellow flag near the end to create a great finish.

(12) Bruce says:

It was a good race..there were a few mistakes but really hard to Blame anyone,I feel bad for Earnhardt but it wasn’t really Kyles fault,it was just an accident.Way to go Jeff…excellent Win!..

Yea that what happens when you get tunnel vision. See smoke and keep on racing, don’t think maybe I need tolift off the gas. INexperiance.

(14) Mark says:

How come Jeff went straight to the winners circle and didn’t do a victory lap.It was my first nascar race to see in person and I thought that would be cool to see.

April 16, 2007 at 10:25 pm
(15) Bob says:

Jeff has some class, instead doing the cheap thrill the burnt out stuff these new guys do. Victory lap, don’t know.

(16) Larry M. says:

Montoya has proven he is a rookie when he hit stewart.Burn his green card and ship him back to mexico!!!!!! BOOOGIE,BOOGIE,BOGGIE,TONY STEWART

(17) watchdog says:

Mark! You say you was at the track, WELL maybe you left early. If you was paying close attention you would have seen that Jeff did NOT do a burn out (you are right there) but he DID INDEED take a victory lap BACKWARDS around the track. Sorry pal but he did do (AT LEAST HALF)of a victory lap. Nearly every show on the SPEED CHANNEL showed it clear Sunday night. But you are right a burn out might have been cool to see. Im going to brickyard and I hope Jeff repeats up there.

(20) Bob says:

patti, you just need to stop and think before comment on here so you don’t post a partial comment then resubmit another one, and we still don’t know what you have said. What does #8 need to stop and think about?

(21) Kyle says:

Don’t worry Patti Bob is always a know it all! He reminds me of Hank Hills old man.

(22) Bob says:

Kyle, Um- a know it all! You call me a know it all when a person writes a comment to a nother to stop and think before typing so we know what they are trying to say. Where does it say I know everything? Oh yea speaking of know it all’s who is Hank Hills?
