Kyle Busch Wins Bristol By a Nose
This was the first race ever for NASCAR's new Car of Tomorrow body style. Seeing them all out there on the track at the same time I was struck by just how much they look like the Craftsman Truck Series. After you get past the new look the racing didn't seem to be affected too much. This was still the same old hard-nosed Bristol.

Great debut for the cot guess we will see what happens on a track that involves more than bouncing off cars and walls
I thought the race sucked, those legoland cars will ruin the sport, in my opinion. I thought it was nearly unwatchable and I did wind up tuning out fairly early on in the race which I normally wouldn’t do. I am not a 40 yr old time fan of the sport, but I remember back some years, Buddy Baker at daytona was my first race, and I couldn’t imagine those guys driving one of these soap boxes. Again, I think the COT will ruin the sport.
Smoke said it best the COT is a flying brick!!! Enough said. see you at Martinsville.
I think I’m a big fan of Kyle bush now for the first time. He said he could not stand the cot, they Suck after he won the non excitment boring race. you know that nascar going down hill when Bristol is boring. I only watched the first 120 laps, I was falling asleep so I turned the channel. I only found out that who had won, and heard his interview on nascar.com
I didn’t think that there was anything to complain about with the COT’s. Good race even though i’m not a K.B. fan. A little less excitement than some of the past Bristol races though. I also thought that it was a WEIRD deal with D.W. dropping the green flag and having a mic on him. It was overkill with the mic. Just MY opinion.
Well here we are again another week. Good job Kyle. I think that all the complaining about the COT is not going to do any good. I think that it is here to stay. So just try to go with the flow. I love racing and with any sport you have to be willing to change with the times. Basketball has new rules and even a new ball. Football is not the same as it was either. As with any thing. Life changes we have to change with it.
I’ve been to better funerals! If this what NASCAR feels is a “step in the right direction” then NASCAR is walking backwards! What a joke, BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY just got spit upon, what an absolute disgrace to a sport that was beloved by MILLIONS (of fans) now its loved by MILLIONS still! (dollars). If NASCAR thinks this is racing they would’nt know racin’ if you gave them an instruction book and video directions on how to do it!
Anita pleeeeaaassseee, if your gonna talk up NASCAR then get your facts straight. You say Basketball, and football have changed, yeah change is inevitable but atleast those sports have never taken the core out of what there sport is……Football players get hurt all the time but the sport hasnt given them NERF balls and Heavy foam padding to take the risk out. Thats what they get paid to do! Basketball players get hurt but the sport doesnt make them play with a 5 foot perimeter that no one can touch them! Thats what they get PAID to do! And they get paid well too!!!!!!! If I’m going to pay HUNDREDS of dollars every year……I want to get what I paid for!!!!!!!!!
I have been trying to think of what this race reminded me of. “SLOT CARS” They went around the track, most of the time in a single lane. Once in a while one car (pin/guide) fell out of the track, and the car wreck in the wall or a nother car. Like watching slot cars, watching cars on the freeway is more exciting than this race was. Yes these cars are here to stay, Nascar will make sure of that. Even if the car companies pull out. Well atleast when they change the rules in football, and the rest you still know what kind of ball they are using.
I can see clearly now, I understand where Nascar is headed.Severly years ago my grandson got a racecar for Christmas, when you crashed it you just pushed a button and the hood, doors, and fenders would return to there original place good as new.The new and improved Nascar!!!!!!!
I am one of those women who hate to drive for fear of getting in a wreck, but I gotta tell you I would have felt great driving in that race! What a boring, disgrace of a race that was! And for the WINNER to come right out and say that the COT Sucked! That’s gotta tell NASCAR something! Bring the excitement back to the race before you lose the fans NASCAR!!!
Kyle Busch is an absolute idiot!! He just bit the hand that feeds him, by putting down the car that won him the race.
Where is Dale Jr. and what is happening to him? I bet Big E is sitting up there shaking his head.
Yo jill I have my facts straight. I am not talking UP anything I am just stating my opinion. Basketball players and football players yes get hurt. But they are also not running 200 mph up and down a court. DUH. They can hurt one part of their bodies. Race car drivers are risking their lives for the thing that they love. Why not keep them as safe as possible. Remember had Dale Sr. put that safer helmet on he might be here today. I am not trying to disrespect the dead. But I think that his subbornness not to change with the times and try to be safer is what killed him. GOD rest his soul. But Jill the risk that other sports people take in comparison to racers is very little. Is is really so wrong for NASCAR to want to keep there players safe? I also think that Kyle can have his opionion of the COT but was very unprofessional in saying what he said. If its that bad dont race.
they said years ago that all cars would be the same , well , we just got a taste of it , next willbe the parts will be too, ford fit chevy and dodge fit toyota , exc exc , that means cars u drive daily too , just wait , just a bucket of worms , lets go fishing on sunday, put nascar on cd`s , change is change , yes safty first , but cars no i love chevy`s , get our auto`s back in the USA and stay , get rid of the restrector plates , if u can drive it , let the driver fly it …..way to go hindrick motors ….the hole gang , 24 48 5 and 25 , keep it up
So much for having your own Opinion, Kyle’s opinion that he hates those cars. He’s the one that drives them. I didn’t think nascar pays him, the car owner does, so how is that bite the hand? That cot crap is a nascar car. Well you may be right nascar may make a rule that states, What ever nascar do or say WE as drivers must say nothing bad, or question, even if it’s our opinion. We drivers must like EVERYTHING that nascar do. Even if we, Nascar changes the rules every week. OH wait, we already do that. Shoot a lot of you so call “real nascar does this already”. Right Victoria?
Mark Martin didn’t want to drive the brick, so he allowed his long string of not missing a race to end, don’t that tell you something??????
Anita you still don’t get it! 22 football players on one team will sustain more injuries in a season (21 weeks including super bowl) than any nascar driver on the track today you want to talk about death? oh ok well lets see over the last ten years 7 football players have lost there lives to the sport they loved and understood the inherant risks involved. NASCAR lost one of it’s greatest drivers in NASCAR in Dale Earnhardt “god rest his soul” but to compare that to football? Go back to knitting or bridge night?
I was sitting on my sofa on sunday watching the race with my son. About half-way through the race he looks to me and says, ” Dad can I go finish my homework, you know I have school tommorrow and I have alot to do.” I asked him why? He replied that he is failing math and knows he’ll be grounded from his dirtbike if he fails. I thought that was pretty incredible concidering his track record. About an hour later he comes back into the living room wakes me up and says. “Dad is it possible that if I fail math this semester can I only be grounded on sundays but for twice as long?” I looked at him, laughed and told him to go finish his homework. AND THAT IS MY FONDEST MEMORY OF SUNDAYS RACE!!!!!!
So Jill by the way NASCAR is sucseeding at making their sport the saftest. I think without trying you made my point.
One more thing. If you folowed all of the nascar or racing circuts you would relize that people die all to often in racing and just because they are in a not a popular circuit you dont hear about it. If you think I’m wrong research it.
Anita we are not talking about “lessor” race circuts, we are talking about NASCAR. If you want to talk about ALL racing then we will have to include ALL football peewee, pop warner, middle school, high school, Jr. college and college into the mix! I’ll get back to you after I’ve completed that! Anita I never thoght I was better than anyone else my talk is based on my love of NASCAR over the past 30 years. Forgive me for shouting out about something that I’ve watched and lived for 30 years. My husband died in a racecar but he loved the sport and he would have done it over again if he could come back. So don’t preach to me about safety! I know all about safety and sacrfice! My view is simple yes safe cars NO to the way there doing it!
Oh my gosh, Anita what the H E double hockey sticks are you talking about. Are you one of the young johnney come lately’s to NASCAR, are you one the “politically correct” out there is wants everyone to win and no one to get hurt. Come on now, I don’t want any injury to come to any driver at any time BUT…BUT at the same time I want racing not that crap that NASCAR displayed this Sunday at Bristol….boring boring boring. It was the worst, I repeat worst Bristol race in a dogs age. The car was crap and it did look like the trucks or lego cars going around the oval. I hate it, NASCAR has no right designing the “car of tomorrow”, let the manufacturers do it. This garbage has got to stop, I will end up watching more IRL races this year then NASCAR, sad state of affairs. Get rid of the France family and get some better ownership or sell stock and let people have a say on what this racing formula will end up being. Damn, it was almost as bad as Formula 1
Ok, the race was ok but I’m not sure what good making your sport safer is if no ones watching, JR. finished 7th and thats all I really care about otherwise I’m not a fan of KyleB or any of his teamates I wish Burton coud’ve won, on to Martinsville then bye now.
One of my comments got erased. I am not going to repeat it. Motocrossed-I have been watching racing for several years. Maybe not as long as others. But when I first started watching I did alot of research to learn about the history of racing and nascar. I know that dont make me an expert. As far as wanting everyone to win and noone to get hurt. There can only be one winner each weak. As far as noone getting hurt. What is wrong with that. I dont enjoy seeing pain and gore when I am trying to watch something I want to enjoy. I also think that all the crazy complaining in the world cant change anything. Everyone makes mistakes and things will always be changing. Not one person on here has a solution to what they consider to be the problems with nascar. Thats why I say go with the flow things will always be changing some of them people will like and other people wont. You cat please everyone all the time.
Jill I am sorry about your husband. But dont you think safer cars and equipments would’nt of helped? Your life might be quite different now. I also was not talking about sopbox racing 4 yr olds. I was talking about all the other NASCAR divisions. There is more than Craftsman,Nextel, and Busch.
i loved the race i went to the race it was so so so cool it was loud and fun
sam- first time watching a race? We can tell.
“Shrub” Busch did win the race, but only because Biffle, aka “the big liar” blocked Burton for two and 1/2 laps, and then “Gentleman Jeff”, even though he was at the 1/4 panel of the 5 car, gave up!!!
Shrub showed his a– saying what he did about the car on TV, but he didn’t pull any punches.
Nascar….your’e loosing fans !!!!!
if you dont like….dont watch it..duh
Anita, when my husband was racing he once said to me “Jill if they ever take the adrenaline out of this sport, you’ll not only kill the sport, you’ll kill the driver’s spirit.” At that time I was nagging him about wearing more protective gear. Years later after he passed and I continued watching and being apart of this sport I realized exactly what he was saying. Watching NASCAR make all these changes for better or worse is not helping the sport at all…. because over the past 2 years I’ve watched the spirit of these drivers die. It’s a slow miserable death at that. There is no honor for these drivers to have to play by “corporate rules” for fear of losing there sponsers or “pissing off Bill France” Drivers want to drive they need to drive and they are very aware of the risks involved in this sport. I love this sport and I’m not trying to live in the past….. But todays drivers are not looking at a brite future….if they are “true to there heart” racecar drivers.
Jill Maybe I havent been watching or involved in racing as long as you but I dont see that the spirit of racing dieing. I see the world of racing changing but the spirit is alive. If it was not I think the vets like Mark Martin and DJ would be leaving as quickly as they could. But look at Mark he was supposed to retire 2 years ago. He cant let it go. I know that he is only racing part time this year, but he is still here. Look at Bill Elliot. You still see him every now and then. If the spirit was dying why would he keep coming back. How bout Morgan Sheapard. Races for the love of racing. He follows the rules as they change but his spirit, the spirit of racing is not dying. It is alive and well.
Hey pat, I will be mature enough not do any name calling that you seem to be a master of. How did kyle showed his a– when he comment about the car? Should he say I really like the car so he wouldn’t hurt France feelings? Drivers should not speak out their opinions? Most of them fall over themselves when talking about their sponsors, by which they forget the fans. You have Mike Waltrip, have you watch him on the speed channel? He’s the biggest suckup for nascar, it’s really sickning. Oh by the way IF you been watching Nascar or any other racing for any period of time blocking is not a new thing.
Only reason Mark didn’t retire two years ago, he didn’t think Roush couldn’t get along without him. (his own words)
Doent mark drive for someone else now? He said on speed the other day that they are still friends even though he dont drive for him anymore.
what Bob, your point? No one ever said they wasn’t friends, or he still drives for Roush. I said he didn’t retire because he didn’t think Roush couldn’t get alog without him. Not my words, thet were Mark’s words. Maybe you need to relook at the interview.
hey bob, My point is if he stayed because of roush why did he just quit this year? He stayed. and who cares. I dont undrstand your comment. Even if he did say that why did you make that comment? I dont get it. It seems slightly random.
I meant to say why didnt he just quit this year?
Hey What Bob, I guess that makes useless comments for the both of us. Why didn’t he quit this year? Have to ask him. I only know what he said during an interview on TV a month or two after he announced during that Big press conference for his retirement. I made that comment referring to # 31 comments, that is why I made it. Ok What Bob? This is Bob.
Calm yourself, calm yourself. COunt to 10 or even 20 if you have to. I didnt say mark didnt say that. As for comment 31, I think the point was about the spirit of racing.
Again, for the last time What Bob, what is your point? Calm, I am calm I have no reason to be otherwise. Yes, #31 said that for the spirit of racing, she also said he was supposed to retire two years ago. I just stated the reason he did not retire. Do you have the point now? I’m really not trying to be a smarta**. Accept my apologies for that. Read “everything” next time to see what it is related too.
uh-oh we now sound like Jill and Anita
Do you think that it is contaigiuos? LOL
I’m beginning to think so LOL
Well at least this is a lighter note. We all have our ouwn opinions and think we know best. But honesly we are all just talking out of our butts. But at least we can have a little fun doing so.
Very true!!!
If these crybabies who are being paid millions of dollars don’t like the cars or the tracks in which they compete. I wonder what it is that keeps them coming back every week. It seems that the crybabies of the sport ie Tony Stewart who bitches and moans every week about something, never realizing that he himself is not God or even remotely close to the best racecar driver who was ever put on this earth, should SHUT yourr mouth and do your job, without bitching about it. If you dislike it thaat much QUIT. Oh yeah you’ll never do that because your all just a bunch of money mongers. Driven by the all mighty dollar, without principals or backbone. This goes out to all the drivers who like to “piss and moan” maybe you should look around yourselves and see the Class A motorcoaches, the jets and all the property and housing you’ve aquired and realize that I’ve got a pretty dam good life, and I’ve nothing to bitch about. There are people in this world who have nothing, who are sick and thank god just to be alive, and it just sickens me to hear grown men who’ve been blessed with so much in there lives complain about it. I’m down off my soap box….Thanks
What we have here is a crybaby (#46)complaining about crybabies. If a driver complain about something they are a crybaby, then if they don’t they don’t have a backbone. #46 at least tony and kyle bush have a backbone enough to speak his/their mind. Most of these drivers are so far up NASCAR, and their sponsors but* they are afraid to say anything. Look at M. Waltrip for an example He falls over himeself agreeing to everything that NASCAR do. Unlike some political correctness like #46 I think it’s good these (some) of the drivers to speak their mind. however, I do agree with you that tony is not the best driver on this earth, then again he’s a lot better what they have racing now. Yes they complain, then again are you complaining too? Food for thought uh?

I tend to agree with on some of the points of John. #46’s comment is contrdictory in what he is saying. Although I think that M. Waltrip if he were so falling all over himself. That whole team would have been playing striclty by the rules and not caught with the suspcious liquid in the fuel cell. I do think de defends NASCAR most of the time but I dont think that he is Up their but*. Just a little difference in opinion. #46 Butch You dont make much sence. Sorry
What I heard #46 say is “People, be a little more positive!” Count your many many blessings. Nothing is ever perfect & stop this incessant need to be right. The Nascar drivers do lead quite a priviledged life compared to most of us & I believe many of them realize they do. Maybe you were a little hard on Tony & your commentary a bit harsh but unlike John & Anita, I think I understood your point. Correct me if I missed it.
Shannon, I understand the point of #46. My point was tony placeed his opinion, as always. If he don’t like something he don’t play “PC”, or suger coat it. He says what’s on his mind. (He and the other drivers get caught up with emotions, as would anybody else). Once again I have heard drivers 20 years ago complain about something that happen on the track, so it is not a new thing. I just get tired of people treating this as Tony started it. I will admit I did not hear tony this last week comments. I thought the race was so boring I turned it off after 124 laps. I only heard Kyle’s remarks on the nascar.com to see wh had won. People complain about kyle placing his opinion about the car. I do know tony can say something good and these people complain about it. Yes these drivers as well all the other sports i.e. ball players do get paid way too much. Then again I would like to be paid like that. Everybody think they should be paid more for what they do, right? So I guess that makes all of us money mongers. Piss and moan? I have not met but very few people that has not say something neg. about their job one time or another, only difference when something go wrong with your job, you don’t have a camera, and a mike shoved in your face just after you get done, before you could cool off. As for mike waltrip falls over himself over nascar? Try to watch the show he is on on monday’s on the speed channel.
COT or not!!!
GO JIMMIE… go Jimmie!!!!
