Matt Kenseth Wins in California

Sunday February 25, 2007
Matt Kenseth beat everyone else out of the pits late in the race to win the 2007 Auto Club 500 at California Speedway. Matt was able to pull away and easily cruised to the checkers.

After posting his second top five finish of 2007 Mark Martin took over the NEXTEL Cup point lead. Previous leader Kevin Harvick had a flat tire right at the end of the race or he would have challenged Kenseth for the win and maintained his point lead. It is too bad that Harvick wasn't around at the checkers to make this race interesting.

Got so boring I watched the Maryland and North Carolina basketball game!!!

(3) MattFan says:

I agree. I think NASCAR should have stopped the race to allow Harvick to change his tire. Would have made a much more exciting finish.

(4) almatic says:

only 3 drivers that have started the first 2 races are lower in points the JR, and 2 that only started one race are ahead of him. Doesn’t look like this is the year for everyones darling!

(5) Jason says:

I think it’s a little early to count anyone out, Jr. only has to finish 12th to have a shot. This could be the year for anyone’s darling.

I have been a nascar fan since 1978 and I,m sorry but after yesterdays race at california I’ve decided to not participate in any more NASCAR events. This isn’t racing anymore this is staged cars going in circles. NASCAR is getting what they want the core fan is slowly fading away and loyalty means nothing to NASCAR anymore. It’s ok though because all the t-shirts, hats, die cast cars, race tickets, and all other forms of merchandising exspences I’ve had over the years will be going elsewhere. My kids will be watching football with me not NASCAR. Football may be corporate too, but atleast they dont scare there players into playing sub-par games.

(7) Bill says:

Very boreing race. You only need to watch one race anymore the bush and nextel are just the same driver the same winners the same.It is a shame nascar cannot see what they are doing to the bush raceing.

(8) Richard says:

almatic, we take it you don’t like jr. So who cares that you don’t like him? This may be a shocker or hard for you to understand , not everybody likes jr, and this may be a real shocker for you – everybody doesn’t likes your little darling. Just maybe jr fans not afraid to show their Loyalty to him when he does good or bad. I mean most come on here to bash jr, jj stewart, and few others drivers. However, have you notice that most do the bashing never say any thing good or bad about their drivers. So where is your loyaty?

(9) Susan says:

I have to agree with Bill. The race yesterday was boreing, after the start, restarts, and the checker flag you could walk away and come back and not have missed a thing.

(10) MURPHY says:

#6 JOHN YOUR RIGHT ON BUDDY, I’VE BEEN SAYING THAT FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS. NASCAR HAS MADE IT SO BORING THAT IT SUCKS. IT’S MONEY MONEY MONEY. I WONDER IF ANYONE NOTICES THAT THERE ISN’T ONE DRIVER THAT EVER SAYS ANYTHING AGAINST NASCAR. THE DRIVERS ARE WELL PAID WITHOUT WINNING SO THEY REALLY DON’T TRY ANYMORE. FIRE DW HE IS FULL OF CRAP. BOOGITY YOUR ASS DW!!!!

February 26, 2007 at 11:10 am
(11) my take says:

Murphy, you noticed that too about DW. He has his nose so far up Nascar’s butt it is’nt funny.

(12) TLabonte Fan says:

I think that Daytona was pretty exciting. California has consistantly been a fairly ho-hum race and I think it has a fair shot of losing the race date in the not too distant future. I have not been happy about a lot of the changes, but I’m not ready to throw the towel in just yet. It is still my favorite sport w/o doubt.

One very telling point about NASCAR’s future….Can you beleive that more people thought last weeks sprint to the line was more exciting than the turn 4 fight? I mean, I thought the sprint between Harvick and Martin was good, along with the meelee behind them, but that has no chance of competing with Cale and and the Allison’s. Goes to show that the old core is being left behind….

(13) Jason says:

TO #7 Bill, I believe those cup drivers in the Busch races are what’s filling the seats, although it doesn’t give the new teams/drivers much of a chance to win, it should make them better. In short, big names = more attendance.

February 26, 2007 at 1:57 pm
(14) my take says:

The fight in #4 turn was exciting at the time. When that happen the general public, and TV started to look at auto racing more. If you remember you only watch nascar very few times of the year on tv before that. I remember watching races few minutes at a time on Wide world of sports. Pocono was pay per view race in the eighties i beleive. Fighting like #4 turn now days? old news, if we wanted to see fighting we will watch hockey, basketbal or football those boring sports. We want to see exciting car races that has good and close finishes (unlike the calif. race). Daytona may had it’s problems, but the finish was exciting. It was the only thing exciting about the race. One more point, did you notice the calif. was not even sold out? It was easy to see lot of empty seats, maybe they stayed home and watch the Oscors? lol

i hate to see any rat roush car win just because of what rat roush said when he was fueding with kurt bush, i quote “I put my sponsors above any driver” to me that says it all.

(16) John says:

I just need to say one more thing call it an addition to my previous statements. To ALL you NASCAR fans out there… Pull the blinders off! NASCAR is playing us (the fans), they seem to forget that we (the fans) got them here! The drivers only fault in this is that they won’t stand up and fight. You ask any driver on the circut and they will tell you “I just want to race!” By the time NASCAR is finished they’ll be putting restricter plates on at BRISTOL!
So to NASCAR I say this… Save alot of money for your pockets by just setting up 43 go-karts! Dont misunderstand me, I know that they are saftey concerns in some of the policies they implement but we all know that the drivers are all aware of the risks they take and have taken,it comes with there profession. Should football players not hit so hard? Should boxers wear 400lbs of foam on there hands? Do baseball players need a cage to stand in so they wont get hit with a 100mph fastball? I’m sorry but for 12 MILLION a year or MORE I would live with the risk!

What an ass: kensethfanyall
Harvick isn’t my driver but WTF!!!

mommy didn’t just leave you alone, she did it on purpose.

(20) Patricia says:

kensethfanyall –boy are you dumb or what, maybe a more appropriate question would be,”how old are you?” You really need to grow up…regardless of who you are a fan of..you should never wish death or any ill happenings on another person. It may come back to you..directly, or indirectly.

March 2, 2007 at 10:14 am
(21) Patricia says:

MattFan –I agree with you..that would have been a REAL race. What a wonderful person you are, unlike kensethfanyall

(22) rick says:

Richard you whine bag. Matty K is twice the driver JR but so are most of the drivers. JR fans are trying to relive the past and it aint happening…tooooo bad, soooooo sad. We REAL race fans had to put with his dads antics for more than a decade…now its your turn. In the words of the biggest Ford fan, Toby Keith…How do like me now!!!!
