(1) Tom Harris says:

Your Paul Menard statement is not correct. He will have to qualify on time for the first 6 events, but will have a few points to fall back on for the starts he had last year. In 2006, Martin Truex got the benefit of Michael Waltrip’s car points from 2005, but I don’t think Mikey is giving up his 37th (or 38th) place points from last year that he earned with his own team, and especially not to a Chevy team.

(3) TED says:

I have been hearing about nascar allowing Toyota to be involved in the circuit. I am appauled this cannot be true, nascar has always been and AMERICAN sport, and I as a true nascar fan will never go to another race if thie is true. PLEASE let me know this is not true. Thanks I am a real AMERICAN and so is NASCAR!!!!!!

(4) my take says:

Ted,without not trying to be critical, You have not followed Nascar for the past couple of years have you? Nascar trucks been allowing TOYota’s for the past few years, and now this year, TOYota’s will race this year. Have you noticed the Rice prices have raised in the store? lol

Don’t give Montoya the trophy yet. Menard could surprise. He was the top non-Buschwacker in 2006. Team Ganassi has not really shown much strength last couple of years. Lest we forget, one Jimmie Johnson had a less-than-stellar Busch career. Menard could be the next JJ.

Toyota Celicas raced in the now defunct Daytona-Darlington Dash series against the likes of Pontiac Sunfire and Chevy Cadavelier.

Steve,

Juan Pablo Montoya, Juan Pablo Montoya…Swan Sablo Smontoya. Get off the bandwagon..please. The guy has a stellar past, and a bright future. I think a little too much pressure has been put on him before he can prove NASCAR compatability. I for one think that moving from open wheel to NASCAR close in racing is a tall order. I give the guy kuddo’s where they are due, but race with the best for 36 events week in and week out, and I’m not one to pick him for the Rookie of the year. The nod should go to a proven talent in NASCAR racing and thats Paul Menard. Two reasons:
1) Menard has shown flashes of brilliance on restrictor plate tracks. His downfall in that category is drafting partners. With the choice of drafting with Menard, who has proven he can run well, or Montoya, who has not proved anything really?, who do you think the guys will pick?
2)T. Earnhardt needs to get in with the big boys and not just have a one horse team. JR. may be good for the lucrative endorsements and fan memoriabilia, but putting more than one car in the show, and showing well, I think is a priority of hers. It was her husbands mentality.

Ted..let us know when you are returning from Mars. How was it up there????

I pick Menard as rookie of the year. Ragan to follow just because Roush deems it so. They will both surpase McMurray who will be let go before the season ends. With Swan Smablo Smontoya in 3rd.

Thanks Steve for the forum to pontificate!

Laura, More NASCAR races with FOREIGN CARS before most of us where born? Lets see, In the 50’s they raced chevy’s, OLDs., Pontects, fords, Mopars products, hudsons, packards, of which ALL American products. 60’s Again fords all gm’s mopars, same in the 70’s,80’s 90’s and so on. Name some, that is if you can do it without name calling, and making a fool of yourself.

Way to go Laura, I love it!

February 4, 2007 at 6:13 pm
(15) my take says:

Laura-Ok I stand corrected. They didn’t stay long nor did they made an impresion on the race community. And these rice burners Toyota’s will not help NASCAR. Well maybe for a short while, some people will watch to see how they are, but in the long run as any other changes that Nascar have done, it will hurt them. After saying that, you still made a fool of yourself by name calling.

(16) LAURA says:

Thanks..”My Take” For your being corrected.

Also as “Pupdaddy” said above: Toyota Celicas raced in the now defunct Daytona-Darlington Dash series against the likes of Pontiac Sunfire and Chevy Cadavelier.

(20) Adam First says:

Some of you need to grow up when it comes to the “integration” of foreign automakers into NASCAR.

Frankly, it’s already bad enough African-Americans or hispanics aren’t involved enough in the sport. It just kind of shows the “stereotypical” intolerance of the fans of the sport, making certain people out as a bunch of racist redneck dimwits.

While i’m not calling anyone out here on this, i’m just saying people should open their eyes to change — besides, the Toyotas won’t do well until at least a few years. Look at Mikey Waltrip and Dale Jarrett, LOL
