Vickers Wrecks His Way To Unpopular Talladega Win

Sunday October 8, 2006
The UAW-Ford 500 was quite a show today! Talladega Superspeedway delivered a thrilling and unpredictable finish that will certainly keep the fans talking for weeks. Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jimmie Johnson were leading the race on the last lap when Brian Vickers made a mistake and wrecked them both out. When the yellow flag flew Vickers was out front and got credit for the win.

While wrecking NASCAR's most popular driver and another of the sport's superstars is obviously a terrible accident, lets all remember that this was exactly that, an accident. Vickers obviously just made an error and didn't intend to take out Earnhardt or Johnson.

(1) Becky says:

Brian Vickers knew exactly what he was doing, it was no accident!
Jr. should have won that race today!!

October 8, 2006 at 7:17 pm
(2) KC says:

Rick Hendrick should fire Brian Vickers for being a punk. What an idiot. He obviously had no chance to win the race today without taking out the front runners, and then he goes and does do-nuts to celebrate when he should have been going to appologize to Dale and Jimmie. That is poor sportsmanship for sure. What a tainted first win, hope he is proud.
Maybe, he can go back and race go-carts. At minimum Nascar should take away all the points he gained with the win. All the Fan’s Know who really won today’s race (8). Any Questions.

October 8, 2006 at 7:42 pm
(3) LP says:

If that is the only way Brian Vickers can win a race he DOES NOT need to be driving a race car. He knew what he was doing! He took out to chase contenders on the last lap, that’s sorry especially when he had no chance to win.

October 8, 2006 at 7:56 pm
(4) Kenneth says:

It looked to me as if Brian Vickers was trying to bump draft Jimmy Johnson, to get him to the lead and get himself to second place, not that that matters, he should be ashamed of himself for doing such a dumb stunt especially at the point in the race he did! Had it been 3 to 4 laps earlier, maybe I could see him doing just what he did, but at the last lap when it was clearly won by Earnhardt, as I said before.. He should be ashamed! And NASCAR should take the win away from him, had it been me,I would have been down talking to the officials as soon as I could get there.

October 8, 2006 at 8:01 pm
(5) Lisa says:

Brian Vickers should be disqualified! That was a very cheap shot at winning a race and I feel it was definitely no accident. He also should be penalized and accountable for his actions. That was a very crappy and dirty action on his part. Nascar should have invited him to the hauler! JR had that race won and did win in my book. I hope Brian realizes that was a cheap shot and did not deserve to win.

(6) JADEN says:

AWHAT A GREAT ENDING TO A SOMEWHAT BORING RACE.. FIRST OF ALL I’M NOT A BRIAN VICKERS FAN BUT THE WAY HE HAS BEEN TREATED AT HENDRICKS IT WAS A FITTING ENDING TO HIS YEAR WITH THEM.
AND AS FAR AS DALE JR BEING TAKEN OUT IT WAS NOTHING HE WOULDN’T HAVE DONE. JEFF GORDAN SAID IT CORRECTLY IN HIS INTERVIEW JR HAD BEEN BUMPING HIM HARD ALL DAY BUT DID NASCAR DO ANYTHING TO HIM? NO NOT UNTIL GORDAN HAD MADE THOSE OH SO TRUE REMARKS….

October 8, 2006 at 9:21 pm
(7) Justin says:

I don’t believe Jr. would have won the race due to Johnson’s run that he had on Jr. I do believe that Vickers is an absolute idiot. I think that 90% of these drivers that say it was an accident are full of it. They didn’t get to where they are at with poor car control. Go Jr.

October 8, 2006 at 9:55 pm
(8) bsquires says:

I can’t say i wasn’t red hot mad for a second,(jr fan),but it’s racing,it’s what draws me to nascar,it’s not over till they cross the line, seen this countless times been on both happy and mad sides,it may of been a bullheaded move but dammit it’s just racing, vickers will have his day, racers don’t forget.

October 8, 2006 at 10:10 pm
(9) Marie says:

Boo to Brian Vickers. He is not in the top 10 and as Tony Stewart said a couple weeks ago, they should race them by themself. Here is a case where some rookie driver, does not know what he is doing knocks out 2 good drivers for his own self pride.

October 8, 2006 at 11:31 pm
(10) shawn says:

Brian Vicers has never been a good driver so he took out to so he could look good in stead of jr or even jimmy. this the wort i have ever seen any body do. vicer leard it from gordan who did it last year to tony.

October 8, 2006 at 11:37 pm
(11) Dean says:

Brian Vickers took out 2 chase contenders. He had no chance to win,so nascar should take the win ,points and penalize him harshly. If I was JR i’d KICK HIS YOU KNOW WHAT!!!!!!!

October 9, 2006 at 12:10 am
(12) Linda says:

I’m sorry…I’m not a Vickers fan, but I don’t think it was intentional. Brian was trying to give Jimmie a push. His bumper got hooked and Jimmie just lost control. I’m not a Junior fan or a Johnson fan either, but I honestly feel that if Vickers’ push had done what Johnson wanted, Johnson would be the one holding that trophy.

Vickers deserves that trophy especially after all the crap that he’s gone through with Hendricks this year with very little help from teammates and poor equipment. My only hope is that the HMS organization doesn’t treat Casey Mears with that lack of respect next year when he joins the 25 team.

October 9, 2006 at 12:27 am
(13) Sharen says:

Is wrecking someone is the only way Vickers can win? If you ask me all the drivers at HMS are cry babies. Vickers because he is suppose to be treated so bad, Jimmie cries when something does not go his way and Jeffie cries about everything. He was saying Jr was Bump Drafting so much on Nascar.com nascar said they no problem I think they gave Jr a warning just to please Jeffie. Sounds like Jeffie was more interesred in what the other drivers was doing and not on the race. Vickers just better watch his back. Drivers do not forget.

October 9, 2006 at 1:14 am
(14) K says:

Oh man, that is sad that you have to stoop to such a low level…but hey you have to admit he had good teachers…

October 9, 2006 at 2:26 am
(15) Gene Morlan says:

I am so fed up with the crying from Gorden, Johnson & and even Jr That I am real happy with Vickers. Good going Bryan

October 9, 2006 at 2:43 am
(16) Hawk says:

I am not a Vickers fan, or a Johnson fan, nor am Jr fan. To me it looked like a move I have seen J Gordon, D Earnhardt Sr., Johnson, R Wallace do to win a race. I know all you Earnhardt, Johnson, and Gordon are going to get mad, so paint your cars with DuPont paint, drink a Bud, and goes to Lowe’s.

October 9, 2006 at 3:02 am
(17) Edward Stotts says:

I saw the ending of that race. That had to be the worst example of driving and sportmanship, that I have ever seen. Dale Earnhardt Jr.should have won that race.I don’t think that stupid
driving causing the leader to wreck, should be given credit. The responsible driver should never be allowed to race in any sanctioned race ever again.

October 9, 2006 at 3:06 am
(18) Adrian says:

I am a Johnson fan, but I’m glad Vickers final wow a race. Like Halk said, We have all seen other GREAT drivers do moves like this intentionally, but I don’t think Vickers did that, he just messed up at 200mph, and it happened that the two cars he wrecked were very popular drivers. I bet If JR had done the same move, with the same intentions, everyone would be cheering him.

October 9, 2006 at 4:39 am
(19) Earleneehdh38 says:

The HENDRICKS AIRPLANE ACCIDENT IS OLD NOW. iT WAS A GOOD RACE TO DEDICATE TO THE DEAD. an accident for an accident. Ass whole

October 9, 2006 at 5:39 am
(20) sharen says:

Adrian Jr did the same move to Edwards and he too got a boo from the crowd

October 9, 2006 at 8:46 am
(21) gary says:

I HAVE SEEN OLDMAN EARNHARDT AND GORDON DO THE SAME THING .THATS RACIN

October 9, 2006 at 9:06 am
(22) monica says:

That was jr’s race. Any idiot can see that Vickers played like a dirty doggg. I think this race should be taken away from vickers and returned to the right owner. Go Jr. And punish vickers to the fullest.

October 9, 2006 at 9:17 am
(23) Six-pack says:

Boo-hoo! Two popular drivers got taken out accidentally…If Vickers had been wrecked no one would have thought anything of it.

October 9, 2006 at 10:19 am
(24) merotac says:

Vickers is a piece of sh__!

October 9, 2006 at 10:33 am
(25) 20_mcfatty says:

AAAHHHHAAAAAA… I love it.. It is what makes NASCAR great. The fact that Jr fans are complaining is laughable. His birthrite & namesake are built off of the very premise for whiche they crusify Vickers for. Go brush your toof’s Jr fans. You mullet wearing rednecks are what give us other real NASCAR fans a bad name. It was racing. Maybe Vickers was trying to “rattle his cage”. =)

October 9, 2006 at 10:36 am
(26) Morgan says:

Vickers knew exactly what he was doing. Hendricks needs to oust him now and Toyota needs to take another look at the new replacement for the B Brothers.

October 9, 2006 at 11:13 am
(27) shelton a says:

GET REAL! NASCAR could not throw a caution to let Hendrick win so one of their guys did it for them. Where is the justice? Last week Jimmy Johnson was in the paper and was quoted as saying I could not believe that NASCAR did not throw a caution – I just knew NASCAR car would throw a caution, I could or would have won if NASCAR had thrown a caution – now come on!! Dale is the best and I can’t use the language I would like to against Hendrick and his drivers. Frankly, I am tried of NASCAR trying to cram THEM DOWN EVERYONES THROAT. Go E. Love you.

October 9, 2006 at 11:15 am
(28) tonyfan says:

Maybe Jr fans are rednecks but they don’t have a name like MCFATTY guess they know what you are

October 9, 2006 at 11:36 am
(29) Carmela l. Bandiera says:

That race was Jr’s, Brian Vickers is a loser who resorted to chickens**t tactics to win that race. In my mind and in the minds of all of Jr. fans everywhere Talladega belongs to Dale Jr.!!!!!!!

October 9, 2006 at 11:53 am
(30) waltrn46 says:

I am a Johnson fan and I like Jr.Everyone in the race bump drafts most probably none harder than Jr. The difference is that Jr. And Johnson are not complete greedy fools that don’t know what they are doing or care about the reaction to amateur, second rate, inexcusable lousy driving causes.I cannot believe that anyone would believe the garbage coming out of Vicker’s pie hole. That he accidentally hooked Johnson is complete bull pudding. The nascar rule for the race was no bumping in the corners. This was a bump in a corner and therefore an infraction of the race rules. Vickers should have been given at the least a drive through penalty, taking away his unearned win and at the most he should have been disqualified.fined and points taken away. For breaking the bump rule and aggressine and I think below rookie ARCAdriving ability. Then figure out who the real winner was, VICKERS IS A PUNK>

October 9, 2006 at 12:14 pm
(31) 20_mcfatty says:

Funny tonyfan, you only prove my point you ignorant hillbilly. My name is 20_Mcfatty true. It pays homage to the fact that Tony Stewart #20 is a fat****! ROFLMAO.As for Vickers? Maybe he is the lovechild of Dale and some random Winston Trophy girl. Vickers certainly has the driving style of an Earnhardt.
ROFLMAO… Vickers for the win at Talladega… and no sanctions from NASCAR.

It’s quite humorous how people can say it was HMS needing a caution. Yet the same biased hillibillies say nothing about the PHANTOM caution Lily got thrown for him, so he could get back on the lead lap…
HMS… FTW

October 9, 2006 at 12:40 pm
(32) Dan says:

jr being bumpet out of the way by Jimmy is one thing but What was that idot Vickers, someone not in The “chase”, thinking when he”bump drafted” His TEAM MATE who is in the “chase” out of his way

October 9, 2006 at 1:45 pm
(33) tonyfan says:

Sorry Fatty I am a Tony fan. I guess it take a hillbilly to know one so welcome to the crowd.

October 9, 2006 at 1:52 pm
(34) BEERFART says:

Restricter plates SUCK….the life out of an engine. With them this is what happens. Earnhardt Was not going to win that race anyway. Had Vickers not had a brainfart and bump drafted Johnson properly, Johnson would have won with Vickers possibly coming in second. I am not a Hendricks team fan. In fact I can’t stand Gay Gordon or Jeff Gaydon or what ever the hell his name is. But thats the thing with retricter plates. Two cars are always going to beat one. Why do NASCAR officials wear neckties?…..To keep their foreskin from covering up their eyes!

October 9, 2006 at 1:56 pm
(35) Bob says:

Brian Vickers is nothing more than a low life driver. I must agree with other people here; who wish that he would get fired. I also believe that NASCARS governing body should penalize him and also sanction him to the point of not letting him race the final races of this season!

October 9, 2006 at 2:10 pm
(36) 20_mcfatty says:

NASCAR should place the same sanctions, point deductions, and fines against Vickers that they imposed on Jr back at Michigan for taking out Edwards on the last lap of the Busch race. Oh, wait.. they didn’t. All is fair then. Next….

October 9, 2006 at 2:30 pm
(37) nascarfan says:

McFatty he did not rattle Jr’s cage he rattled his team mates cage. Jr was not upset, of the wreck but Jimmie was the one that did all the crying. Jr said “That is racing” It is not Jr fans or any other drive fans that give Nacar a bad name. It is fan’s that have to stoop to name calling of other fan’s. You are not the only one there are others that are name calling. There would be no Nascar if there was only one driver out there to root for. Just because they do not like your drive does not make them bad peopl.

October 9, 2006 at 3:44 pm
(38) mike says:

You all are just crazy look at the replay honestly, it was not intentional that’s just what comes from bump drafting. Jr. was the only one with class to call it the way it was, just a racin deal. Johnson is a crappy example of a teammate if Vickers hadn’t gone with him he wouldn’t had a chance to pass Jr. and you all would be dogging the guy for not helping a teammate you all are such great drivers racing from behind the TV see how you do at 190+ mph stuff just happens so fast he made a move and just wasn’t clear, an accident not like nobody remembers Johnson making any oops remember he is the same one who took out half a field just a year or so ago! me personally the way that team (Hendricks) has treated Vickers lately he should have just hung Johnson out to dry the kid was trying to help him god knows why maybe cause he is like the only one with team morals

October 9, 2006 at 3:52 pm
(39) 20_mcfatty says:

OK Nascarfan. However, the point still remains for those who think Vickers should be penalized.
NASCAR should place the same sanctions, point deductions, and fines against Vickers that they imposed on Jr back at Michigan for taking out Edwards on the last lap of the Busch race.
Same situaiton, same result, same NASCAR. That is my point. No reason to change the finish result then & no need to do one for Talladega. Thats racin’, Ya’ll. =)

(40) nascarfan says:

I like Jr but I like a good race no matter who win’s What is fair for one should he fair for all no matter who you are. Nascar seems to make up the rules as the day goes by. Make up rules for all races and stick to them.

October 9, 2006 at 5:01 pm
(41) nascar fan says:

Jr. was right, it was racing. He even congradulated Headrix motor sports and Brian for his first win. Neither of the other two racers even acknowledged that they had took Jr. out. Brian said that it was Jr’s fault that Johnson got into him, he never acknowledged his being sorry for taking anyone else out but Johnson. At least when Jr. took Edwards out earlier in the year, he said he did, and looked him straight in the eye and said I did not do intentionally. Jr. is not a cry baby and knows that it is just racing. Not all Jr. fans are redneck, bud beer drinkers. He has alot of good ole boys and good fans on his side because of his character and the maturity from growing in the sport. He got wrecked and lost the race because of it, but he was the only one not crying.

(42) scott says:

PLEASE !!!! an accident ???? NOT !!!!
this kid is good enough to be racing for one of ” T H E ” most elite teams in motorsports…and he says that was an acident..that was stupidity on his part..not just rookie error..he knew just what he was doing and why…your team mate brian ???? jr ??? come now son…your beter than that kid !!!!!

October 9, 2006 at 6:52 pm
(43) angie says:

I am a JR fan and proud of it, and I am not a redneck and I dont have a mullet!!!!!!Vickers was a nobody before this and well always be a nobody in Nascar. He well never be as good as JR or Jimmy. He is a sad little person.

(44) Sabby says:

Y’all are so wack about Jr… it’s too funny.

October 9, 2006 at 8:52 pm
(45) Julie says:

Brian Vickers sux. Thats just poor sportsmanship and very sad racing.

October 9, 2006 at 10:08 pm
(46) Emily says:

I am a very big Johnson fan and I feel that he would have won that race had it not been for that dumba** trying to make his way into the picture. He new what he was doing and didn’t care that he was knocking two of the contenders for the Chase out by what he done. I guess it didn’t matter to him considering he was never in that position. He is a very sucky driver and I don’t feel that he should be able to finish racing for the team for the rest of the season. What kind of teammate is that? I sure wouldn’t want to be working with someone like that. That was the most upset that I have been about a race in a while, and it all happened because that piece of sh!* Vickers. He SUCKS!!!!!!!

October 10, 2006 at 9:44 am
(47) Debbie says:

I think that Brian Vickers should not have won that race, if that is the only way he can a race then he should go home and get a 9-5 job that he pull that kind of bull-crap on. JR had that race and Brian was running behind them and decided that the only chance he had of winning was to wreck Johnson and knowing that he in turn would take out JR, then he would have a straight shot to the finish line. AND WHAT ABOUT THAT WORD HE SAID IN THAT SO-CALLED VICTORY LANE????!!! Did hi get fined? He sucks and should be disqualified!!

(49) Steve says:

I’m Not a Vickers fan…I am a Jimmie fan and after Jr’s comments after the wreck, I’ve become a Jr fan but if you watched the race with your eyes OPEN…it was obvious that Vickers was trying to stay right behind Johnson to be sure that they were able to pass Dale. He misjudged how much Johnson was going to slow down when he got out of Jrs draft and barely tagged Jimmie. Unfortunate for Jimmie & Dale but unintentional by Vickers…not the way I like to see people win but that’s racin! If you want to complain about an intentional wreck by Vickers…consider when he took out Mike Bliss in the all star race qualifier….THAT was intentional!

October 10, 2006 at 12:18 pm
(50) Elittle8 says:

Jr showed this weekend, on and off the track, way he is the most favorable (not a redneck word) driver.

October 10, 2006 at 1:16 pm
(51) Dale says:

Johnson,Gordon and Jr. are the biggest whiners in NASCAR.Gordon cried when Vickers and Johnson passed him and said they weren’t team players. He bumped Kyle out of the way to make his pass and said let that be a lesson.Jr. cries about his car constantly, nothing is ever his fault.Johnson cries when he has a bad day and Lady Luck isn’t on his side.Guess what Johnson ,your luck has run out get over it!We have seen this type of finish so many times before. It’s called racing,so all you Jr. and johnson fans need to quit whining because you sound just like they do!

October 10, 2006 at 2:48 pm
(52) tanya says:

I agree with some of you that that is racing and yes I think it was an accident but but vickers should have been man enough to admit that he made a mistake and not try to blame it on JR Even his own team make said that It was vickers gfault in the post race interviews. Vickers be a Man and admit when you make a mistake

October 10, 2006 at 3:10 pm
(53) nscr8fan says:

The end of the race was determine by two pros and a moron. Johnson ducked low…Junior started a block but was told by his spotter that Johnson had the run on him so he held his line. If only Vickers had ducked down at the same time as Johnson, maybe he would have pushed square on his bumper instead of hooking him like he did. He surely didn’t let up. He had to know what the result would be. It puzzles me why Nascar had stated that bump drafting would be ok but would absolutely NOT be tolerated in the corners. For some reason unkown to the fans, they chose not to enforce this time but instead handed a scoundrel a trophy. As a Junior fan I would have liked to see Dale jr. win, but I think Johnson had the run and a more realistic finish would have been Johnson 1st, Vickers 2cnd, and Junior 3rd. A more favorable finish for those who are at least in the chase. As for his namesake and driving style, I’ve seen Junior give and take on many many occasions when a more aggressive driving style would have earned him a better finish. The man’s got Class!

October 10, 2006 at 5:16 pm
(54) Mikey says:

I agree with nscr8fan, two PRO’s and a MAROON, yes MAROON, Not smart enough to be moron. I AM AN ERNHARDT FAN, RALPH, DALE Sr, DALE JR, KERRY, and I can go back when Ralph was racin, shows the age.

October 10, 2006 at 9:05 pm
(55) Chuck says:

Dale Earnhardt Jr. showed true class after that race. He didn’t have one bad word to say about Brian after that wreck. After the showing on the track, there is no doubt that Dale and his team are true professoinals. I am not a Vickers fan, but anyone with half a brain knows that he didn’t cause that wreck on purpose. If you think he did, you have obviously never been in a stock car traveling at over 190 MPH! It’s funny how the people that call these drivers “whiners” are always whining themselves!!! If you know so much about racing, why are they making the $$$$ and not you?

October 11, 2006 at 12:22 am
(56) MsMarilyn says:

I was never the Jr fan until this race. I’d always seen him as a cry baby and bully. But after this race I had to change my mind about him. Vickers won, I don’t think it was right but I’m not a Nascar offical, I’m just a fan of the sport.

But I do have a question for some of the people doing all the name calling on here. I understand that the love of a sport can bring out the best and worst in people, but why all the name calling? We’re not in grade school playing on the playground, we’re suppose to be adults here.
I’m from the south and proud to be a “hillbillie” and for the record. I have all my teeth, I’m educated and don’t wear a mullet. LoL

Happy Racing… Mar

That’s racing people…

October 11, 2006 at 12:46 am
(57) Jan says:

I agree with Chuck. In fact, I would like to emphasize the point again. Dale Jr was the only driver to emerge from the controversial ending to the Talldega race with class. It is no wonder that his fans admire him so much… those of us who are not beer guzzeling rednecks, and those who are.. he has a very diverse group of fans of all ages and lifestyles. He does not whine or point fingers, ever, at other drivers. And complaining about a bad handling car is not “whinning”.. it is perhaps digust, discomfort, stress in trying to describe what the problem is. I congratulate him on the fine job of racing and the good sport he was at Talladega. He earns the respect and support of his fans.

October 11, 2006 at 7:38 am
(58) Dale says:

I’m not a DEI or Hendricks fan and yes some of you are right.Jr.did show class after the race by not pointing fingers and crying like a little bitch, which was a huge surprise! Some of you say he’s not a whiner.Surely you remember when he cried about his pit crew chief 2yrs ago then last year he cried he wanted him back. That’s what is really disgusting. He’s a spoiled punk!

October 11, 2006 at 11:24 am
(59) Vicky says:

Jr. is the winner in that race…Gordon and Johnson have always been crybabies. As far as Vickers dedicated that race to the plane crash, that’s an all time low!. Jr., in my book, is the prime example of good sportsmanship and great role model to all young people for his comments at the end of the race. Now that’s a real man!

October 11, 2006 at 12:16 pm
(60) Jason says:

Well first for the idiots who are siding with Jeff gordon when he whines like the titty baby he is, about Jr bump drafting to hard. If it weren’t for Jr Jeff Gordon would not have run upfront like he did when Jr was pushing him. Jeff Gordon is just a big sissy baby.

Now as for Vickers I hope he enjoys his tainted victory. I personaly think it’s BS…… Even Jeff Gordon knew who had the car to beat. As for the wreck. Intentional or not it happened. I tend to agree with Chad Knaus’s comment , that Vickers ran out of talent, and wrecked Jr and Johnson. It really hit them both in the points. I think Jr should be pissed of, instead of letting it roll of him.

(61) Bill says:

I’m a big Jr. fan, so I was very dissapointed at the finish of the race. I think Jr. handled the situation just like his Dad would have, with the utmost class! My only problem is Vickers put most of the blame on Jr. for trying to put a big block on he and Jimmy. Sure Jr. blocked, but no more than anyone else would have. Jr. didn’t cause the wreck. Vickers did! Brian should have spent more time apologizing to Jr. instead of trying to put the blame for his mistake on Jr.’s shoulders. Be a man Brian! Admit it when you screw up! Don’t try to pass the buck, and you may get a little more respect!

October 11, 2006 at 1:23 pm
(62) MURPHY says:

GOOD DRIVING BRIAN, A FEW YEARS AGO OLD MAN EARNHART DID THAT QUITE A FEW TIMES AND EVERYONE THOUGHT HE WAS GREAT. JR UNDERSTANDS BUT THAT JERK JOHNSON IS A MORON. LET HEM CRY.

October 12, 2006 at 1:31 pm
(63) Don says:

The best of times the worst of times! Yes rubbing is racing. The fact is that a BOY was trying to play a MANS sport and it showed. Jr fan or not, I am, he was the only professional on the track. Jimmy Johnson did as he was taught by his mentor Jeff Gordan, CRY. The really sad commentary comes from Brian Vickers blaming JR for his error in judgement.Either an accident or intentional it was an error in judgement. Grow up Brain and please NASCAR fans take a little pride in yourselves and stop the language and name calling. Did nobody ever tell you that it only shows your poor vocabulary and lack of maturity. No wonder our sport is continually made fun of. Oh well. GO JUNIOR!!!!

October 12, 2006 at 1:43 pm
(64) Todd says:

As far as calling Gordon (or any driver) a whiner about commenting on excessive bump drafting, put down the beer, get off the couch and put your ass in a car doing 195 mph and see if you might not like it. It’s easy to critisize these drivers from an easy chair when it’s not your life on the line. As far as “The Chosen One” getting wrecked, it happens. It certainly should not be a free ticket for toothless reprobates to throw beer down on the track. Talk about no class. I’m sure that makes Dale feel terrible. And by the way, Jr. probably would NOT have won that race. He said himself that he conceded the win to Johnson knowing the run the two Hendrick cars would have on him in 3 & 4. That’s why he didn’t really try to block. I hate it happened also, but that’s racing.

October 12, 2006 at 3:10 pm
(65) Debbie says:

I have seen Brian Vickers race in the Busch series. So I have a hard time believing that he accidentally bumped Jimmie Johnson. I feel his first Nextel Cup win will always be in question.

(66) Dirk , NOVA SCOTIA says:

Heard from friend, there should be a rule in NASCAR, when a driver takes out a driver on the last lap he should be BLACK FLAGED, loose position. DALE TAKE HIM OUT NEXT RACE, GOOD RACING DALE! LONG TIME RACE FAN OF YOUR FATHER NOW YOU KEEP RACIN!! DRM

(67) Dan L. says:

Brian didn’t have a firt place car and neither did Jr. All the Jr. fans are pissed cause they really thought he was taking the win. If you look closely to the replay leading to the accident Johnson was coming up unbelievably fast and if there wore no accident Jr. would had come in third place.

BRIAN VICKERS WONT BE ATEAMMATE NEXT SEASON WITH JIMMIE JOHNSON LOOKOUT IT IS NOT OVER.

(69) Michelle says:

What ever! Brian Vickers knew what he was doing and what happened was bull. Dale Earnhardt Jr. should of won the race. It was no accident! Jr. & Johnson had great attitudes about the situation. That is awesome. Shows real sportsmanship.

i am a jr fan but i really dont think he was gonna win but he would have finished a lot higher if that idiot wouldnt have taken him out

(71) Abi says:

The Nascar officials are calling this win by Vickers a legal win. Thats crap.
I know that Vickers intended to run Johnon and Dale off the track… This win should be given to Dale and taken away from Vickers….

(72) pat says:

Johson was faster and caught Jr. Vicker was part of that “catching”.Johnson would have sung Vickers’ praise if he (Johnson) had won. JOhnson pulled out to pass Jr. and hit a wall of air that slowed him down mmomentarily. Vickers, drafting all the way, was in Johnson’s draft. Vickers was not momentarily stalled by the dirty air as was Johnson. That momentary stall is what caused the front of Vickers car to hit Johnson ever so slightly. It wasn’t intentional, it wasn’t provoked, and Vickers should not be condemed nor threatened by people who call themselves NASCAR fans. I enjoy NASCAR and every driver has my vote…(except COPE). Threats and evil actions take away from the (our) sport.

It was a good race, but it was still done dirty. And I don’t have a favorite driver, I love the sport..

As my ex-husband used to say, “Bleacher Drivers, All of You!” We have no clue until we have driven a few yards in the driver’s suits. Oh, and surely some of you are more than conversation cripples.Cry baby, whiner….is that it? Try Webster. Lets move on. There’s a race Saturday night! As for me & my family, we’ll be in “Jimmie’s House!” Go 48!

(75) Jacque says:

Brain Vickers has has 107 races and no wins. He help Jimmie to catch Jr. but couldn’t have done it without Jimmie. And as some has said we may not know how it feels in that time and space but even Vickers own team mate was pissed at his bad error in judgement. Jr. led the most laps – was said to be the fastest of the day and was getting 0 help. It’s a shame for both Jr. and Jimmie. Vickers tried to blame Jr. for the wreck…Hey Jr. you need to choose your friends better… Well still in your car with ya Jr..

(76) mike smith says:

I am neither a Jr. or a Johnson fan But I am a race fan. You could read the writting on the wall with 5 laps to go that Jr. was going to crash I would have like to see at least one of the ten to win but like both of the drivers said that is racing My self I would have like to have seen Jeff Gordon win. it was ridiculous of Vickers to win that way when he is not in the top ten like Stewart If he wanted to win he should have got out and passed like they were tring to do.in stead of the bump and grind. (79) shirley says:

Vickers new what he was doing. It is nice for him to win but not that way. He did not deserve to take the checkered flag. He isnt even in the chase so he should of backed off. The race souldnt of been his he should of been penalized for rough driving.

(80) Nell says:

Vicker,s, Johnson, and Gordon are all punk,s. Dale Jr. should have one that race. Nascar should fine both Vicker,s and Johnson and give the win to Dale. I am a die-heart Dale Jr. fan and I was wanting him to win. Where was Nascar when this happened? No where to be found. They didn,t want Dale to win. It wasn,t Nascar,s golden boy,s, Johnson and Gordon. They cater to them and to hell with the rest of the driver,s. The win should have went to Dale Jr. but what do I know, Nascar sure doesn,t. Vicker,s should never be able to drive again. What in the hell was he thinking.

Nelly get back in your room and study for that english test. It’s important that you pass 5th grade this year considering you’re 15. Lily shouldn’t have one, wun, or won… I’ll let you in on a little secret. Pssst.. get closer… JR IS NASCAR’S CASH COW…. mooooo moooo..
