What is NASCAR's Chase for the NEXTEL Cup?

Tuesday September 12, 2006
This weekend NASCAR kicks off the Chase For The NEXTEL Cup. The Chase format is only two years old and NASCAR has not done a great job of explaining just exactly how it all works.

Which drivers are qualified and why? How do the points work during The Chase? Here is a full explanation of the Chase For The Cup format.

I loved watching the Winston Cup Races, and I had gone to several races in Sonoma, Ca. I understand the name change however, what I don’t like or understand the way they do the points and now the race to the championship. I liked watching all of the races to see who was going to be the winner, now its like you only have 10 racers, what about the rest of the pack??? I don’t watch races that much because it isn’t as much fun as it used to be. I don’t know if other people feel as I do, but I am sure there are some. Please explain why only 10 racers are the only ones to decide who the champion is. I know and understand the points but I like the way “Winston Cup” had the points and the race to the championship.

Thank you,
