NASCAR Scanners 101

Lately it seems like nearly everyone at the race track has a set of headphones on. What are they listening to? Is it worth it for you to have one too? Those headphones (actually they are scanners) allow the race fans to listen to the two-way communications between the driver, crew chief, spotter, and occasionally between two drivers.

I have two scanners for the family. They do make the races more exciting.

I do realize that we are entering the drivers domain when we turn the phones on, and I accept the words they use to describe the action on the track or the feelings they have for their cars present performance.

My problem is when the drivers speak with “forked tongue”. For example,no names mentioned, but when the driver of the #16 Cup Car accuses NASCAR officials as being… “M F’s on crank” while being forced to start behind the 5 car after a race off pit road at Vegas, and then address the public via the censored media and compliment NASCAR on the way they operate.

I know NASCAR listens to the drivers and I wonder how they really feel about the driver of the 16 car after hearing such trash.

I know I was not the only one that heard that exchange as I saw others with scanners with surpised looks.

I was bored one night, and I found this blog. I learned so much about this topic that it made me want to go out and research it further.
