Stewart Wins Duel #2

Thursday February 17, 2005
It seems that the new smaller restrictor plate, softer tires and smaller spoiler didn't make it any easier to pass the leader. Tony Stewart lead the last eleven laps of the race with Jeff Burton riding home behind him. There was some racing in the bottom half of the top five, but not much to get excited about. With his win today Tony Stewart will start the Daytona 500 from the fourth starting spot.

This race had a big mess on the backstretch just after halfway as Kevin Harvick got into the back of leader Jimmie Johnson and spun him in front of the entire field. Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace and others were collected and will be headed for backup cars. Based on the incident and the media comments afterwards many drivers were invited to the NASCAR hauler to discuss the incident.

The two guys that raced their way into the Daytona 500 were Kevin LePage and Martin Truex Jr. in the Dale Earnhardt Inc. car #1 who finished third and fourth respectively.

Robby Gordon finished seventh but it wasn't good enough to race his way into the show. He'll have to rely on his qualifying speed if he's going to see the green flag on Sunday.
