Kurt Busch Claims NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Championship

Sunday November 21, 2004
NASCAR Chase For The NEXTEL Cup paid off today with an exciting finale during Ford Championship Weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Kurt Busch, Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson traded the points lead all day long as the three points leaders all avoided major bad luck and battled back and forth for the season long points title. In the end though Kurt Busch was able to baby his slim point lead into a Championship by keeping the other two in his sights. Congratulations to Jack Roush for his second consecutive championship and to Kurt Busch and his Sharpie/Rubbermaid team for putting together ten solid races to close out the season and claim the first ever Chase For The NEXTEL Cup playoff.
