Kenseth, Harvick Get Off Easy

Wednesday June 16, 2004
NASCAR announced today that Matt Kenseth and Kevin Harvick would be fined $25,000 each and placed on probation through August 11th. The fine stems from their testosterone-fueled bumping battle under caution at the end of the Pocono 500.

After a hard-racing incident right before the final caution of the day where Harvick crossed over the nose of Kenseth's car and Matt didn't lift for him. The two drivers then proceeded to take turns wrecking each other while riding around under yellow. A great display of what too many people already think NASCAR is all about on a day that already had enough problems.

I'm surprised that NASCAR decided not to take away points considering the blatent ignorance of the incidents. Both drivers should consider themselves lucky, apparently NASCAR President Mike Helton was in a good mood this morning and decided to go easy on them.

I think all the race car drivers should be punished exactly the same as the next.
