Richmond Double-Header Weekend Kicks Off Today

Thursday May 13, 2004
The Busch Series drivers are fresh off their race last week at Gateway International and will get to practice and qualify today on the newly repaved Richmond International Raceway. The NEXTEL Cup drivers will open practice and qualifying tomorrow.

Everyone expects the track record to fall during qualifying on the new smooth surface and softer tires but whether or not the racing will be any good is still up in the air. If it is like most new surfaces it will take a couple years for the great side-by-side racing to develop. Hopefully we'll see a good outside line like there used to be, but I'm not holding my breath.
